This is what happens when you hit middle age, no one warns you about how life goes to crap 🙂
As above might have to get one for an
elderly relative, any clues, recommended makes or tips?
obviously red ones are faster and larger wheels will make the footpath come alive

I did not get as far as buying one, but did look at local places where you can hire them. I think giving some a test drive round the local NT property is a good way of finding out what might work for you.

These are the people I was going to use, but events took over and we had to bin the idea so I can’t tell you if they are any good – https://www.countrysidemobility.org

In most towns you don’t really have a choice, pavements are obstructed by poor car parking, bins left out etc.

In our street you’d never find an occassion when the pavement wasn’t obstructed at least once by something and you have to walk in the road to get round.

Plenty of new concepts in the world of mobility scooters these days…

I had one for getting in to work when I had my ankle screwed together, it was too far to go on crutches. I have since been known as Dr Nefario at work.

I would say that a smallish basic one is fine unless you want to go quite a long way. If you go to big they’re a right PITA to maneuver. Also a lot easier to lug in and out of the car boot if you want to take it away. It can get bogged down if you take it on a beach though.

My mother-in-law has been through quite a few. She has emphysema so struggles to walk for any distance at all.

They have gone thought all sorts of different ones. Small ones that fit in the car easily to their current behemoth that looks more comfortable & has better range, but won’t fit in the car.
She’s quite (a lot) overweight so the small ones really take a hammering and the battery life suffers. She also doesn’t feel very safe on the smaller wheels.

Your relative really needs to sit down & write down a list of requirements. If it needs to fit into the car, it will instantly rule a lot of them out. If it’s only for local trips from home then you can get away with something bulkier, with bigger wheels & batteries etc.

A lot of them seem to be very expensive for what they are & the technology seems pretty archaic.
