The lockout has stopped working, you can turn the switch but it does nothing.

Is this fixable by me or does it need special parts / tools? I'm not completely incompetent, I managed to service my forks recently.

    cheers

try an oil change, if any has leaked out it will stop working, also if they've been left upside down for a while you have to pump them up and down a few times to get the oil in the right place to make them work again,
wiper seal and oil change link below if it helps

put the rebound on full slow with the lockout off and compress the forks 20 times or so.
This will bleed any air out of the damper cartridge resoring your lockout.

If this doesn't work it's time for a strip of the cartridge to inspect it and see if any parts are broken, you need specific clamps for this as it's very easy to damage the cartridge tube/components.

    any issues mail me.

hijack- mr loco, can you revalve an rp23 from a high tune to a medium tune? and if so how much, its done 2 rides from new and i want to put it on a different bike with a lower leverage ratio and it feels dead/lumpy as it is now

I might be wrong, but I think the OP is asking about a rear shock..

service time if its a shock

Khani, at present I'm not servicing or tuning/revavling fox rear shocks.
I'm currently testing seals for this purpose and just want to make sure they work as well if not better than the Fox ones.
Should be able to carry out all work on the rears in a month or so.
For just about everything else I have parts in stock.

Yes and if it is a float RL rear shock it's service time as something in the lockout circuit has broken or nitrogen oil seal on the IFP has blown, does it sound squelchy?

Hi Guys, sorry for the delay, damned day job gets in the way!

As tinsy guessed it is the rear shock. It is quite old, an '03 AVA model but it was serviced less than a year ago and TFTuned reckoned it was in OK condition.

It's not squelchy and the shock is working fine, it's just the lockout doesn't do anything. I can probably get by without the lockout but any ideas if there are likely to be broken bits floating around inside?

Hasn't leaked since it was serviced.

I had a Float RL AVA, the IFB broke and nitrogen mixed with the oil leaving it with no damping. Was never really happy with it, always fiddling with the lockout trying to stop it blowing through its travel and bobbing. Sent it to TFTuned and paid the extra to get it PUSH'd, they remove the lockout lever as part of the upgrade and once I got it back I never missed it, it was much better 🙂

Khani, I also got my RP23 PUSH'd earlier this year, they removed the stickers with the valve tune on them so I guess they tune the shock appropriately to both rider weight and frame leverage stuff.

    IFB?

    ifp=internal floating piston, i think

It maybe that the lockout shim retaining screw/bolt has sheared and as a result a small metal disc is floating about in your shock. This acn write off the body tube/shaft by scoring it internally.
It can also get wedged in your piston and shim stack.
Either way I wouldn't recommend using it unitl it's been serviced as you could cause further damage and cost yourself a fair bit more.
