Fenix 6 pro vs Instinct 2X vs Instinct 3

I have a a Fenix 6 Pro and am wondering whether to take advantage of an Instinct 2X – I like the form factor and only use them during bike activity, preferring “normal” watches otherwise – at £270 in the BF sales.   Also, the Instinct 3 looks to be incoming.

Im all for saving money buying previous gen.  The Fenix works for me therefore there’s no real reason to change, unless the Instinct sale 2X provides value for money vs an Instinct 3 / waiting 12 months for the Instinct 3 to start to reduce in cost… but when will my Fenix start to be obsolete…?

I’ve got a fenix 6 pro and it is my everything watch…I suspect it will never go obsolete as such, just the newer stuff may not work on it, but if it does everything now that you need then the newer stuff doesn’t really matter.
Saying that, I’m hoping for at least another 18 months before I start thinking I want a new watch, but then I’m expecting this to still be working absolutely fine.

Obsolete how? My fenix 3 still works for tracking etc., my son uses it as I too have a fully functioning 6 Pro bought 2 yrs ago.

If you fancy new shiny kit buy it, but worrying about your 6 being obsolete seems to be you justifying a new toy.

I’m only concerned that the software upgrades etc stop, but as said if the current hardware / software is good enough and doesn’t go bang yes I’ll keep it.    Not justifying a new toy at all, just wondering if there’s a need to take advantage of the pricing.

I wouldn’t be so sure. My 5 year old Fenix 5plus is flaky as ****. It’ll refuses to charge, doesn’t sync with my phone routinely, and shuts down randomly. Garmin (and others) have told me that as far as they’re concerned it’s pretty much at the end of its life. Personally for the price I paid for it – compared to an analogue watch, I don’t think they’re worth the outlay. I’ll use it for as long as I can keep it going, but I’m not in a hurry to buy another.

a few of us older gents have found that the Instinct screen isn’t the easiest to read when on an activity.  I replaced mine with an Epix Pro Gen 2, from a PSA on here, which is a huge improvement

I’ve got an instinct 2x solar and wear it 24/7/365, I don’t see the benefit in changing from a fenix 6 unless there’s thing like battery life you’re missing (battery life on the 2x solar is epic, 6 weeks easy with no solar).

Mine lasts about a week between charges (with daily activity tracking/GPS use).

Ahh, that’s with no GPS/activity tracking use, IE just being used as a normal smartwatch. Obviously tracking rides/runs etc brings that down a lot.

@iainc I feel your pain… so is the Epix significantly easier to read.  I got the Instinct 2 last year and it’s great, but the eyes are rapidly letting me down. I can cope with most of aging but the eyesight thing is not good!

Another instinct 2 user who switched to an epix due to text size. Battery life on the epix has been good, not instinct levels, but still good. Screen is much nicer and easier to read
