Fancy bolt on mudguard for fox 36

I am the proud owner of a new fox fork, Fox 36 Float Factory 27.5+, 170mm, Grip2 Damper, Boost 110x15QR.
I noticed that it has some threaded holes in the arch that must be for a mudguard.
I fancy a good mudguard, but there are a dizzying array of these bolt on type mudguards.
a) Do all fox 36’s use the same mudguard size?
b) Which mudguard do people like?

RRP Pro is the one you want I think

I have the bolt on Mudhugger Evo on my Zebs.
It literally guards me from mud so in that sense the term ‘mudguard’ is apt.
Very good and solid.

Bolt on RRP Proguard if you want ‘proper’ coverage – ie being able to ride in proper mud with no glasses and not worry about mud in your eye.

I have one of those Syncros ones, as well as an RRP, the Syncros is 90% as good, without looking to hideous.

In true stw fashion I’m going to fully contradict Jimmy and say that I found my synchros bolt on to be in chocolate fireguard territory but am pretty happy with my rrp pro. (*check recommended clearance, coz with the wrong tyres/mud/clearance combination you can come to a standstill)

I use the Syncros one. Fit and forget all year around. That other one looks to be a better mudguard for the real wet periods.

I’ve a syncros bolt on. Really impressed with it: cheap as chips, doesn’t make it look like a Royal Enfield that’s had its engine nicked, only sticks out behind the bridge so can lay the bike down in the car without shearing the guard off. Wish they made one for the 38s.

This is one of the reason I’ve stuck with it, having bent lots of “full” guards in the past in just this way.

And looks. Looks matter. Don’t try and tell me that they don’t.

Agreed, I have the rrp bolt on proguard on my hardtail and a similar small fender on my manitou on the FS bike, riding both in the Lakes over 5 days – no glasses needed on the HT. Glasses most definitely needed on the FS.

I also have both but I’d say effectiveness is very much in proportion to size.  Stubby Syncros job just about keeps some crap off the stanchions but if I want an effective mudguard the RRP goes on.  I like the old strap on Mudhuggers but haven’t tried the latest bolt on.  I suspect it would be just as good as the RRP

I’ve got the proper fox one as that’s all that was around at the time. It’s about the same effectiveness as a mucky nutz type velcro jobby. So, does a good job of a stopping all the splatter going through the fork and out in front. Occasionally stuff still flys up into your face. But it’s quite subtle looking, if that’s your thing.

What is the clearance like on the RRP bolt on?

Currently trying to run a 2.6″ tyre in a Mojo Defender mudguard and its just too tight, so will get a RRP if anyone can vouch for them?

i’ve got an RRP Proguard on a Fox 38. Clearance with a 2.5 assegai installed seems very generous, though not tested in really muddy conditions yet.

I have the RRP Pro Mini and it’s pretty good to be fair.  Might get the bigger one for when it’s properly filthy but it’s very good 80% of the time and doesn’t look quite as daft as the bigger one.

Does anyone find that the rrp flexes and bangs on the tyre on heavy hits?
Mines very noisy.

It might not be flex that does it. If you depressurise the fork, you might find the crown actually come lower than the arch at full travel. It certainly does on my 34.

I’ve not had any issue with wobble/flex but I’m only using the smaller version of the RRP

Syncros one works brilliantly in bone dry conditions, replaced mine with RRP Pro as above, it’s very good indeed.

Re rrp bangs on tyre, have you set the mounting bolts at high (or low) to maximise clearance, I loctited mine after they slipped.

In all fairness it’s on a short offset fork so I did have to shave some plastic off as the crown wasn’t clearing it deep into its travel so it might be worse from that.

And yeah it’s set as high as possible.

I’ve had it bang a few times after a big hit..might be it hitting the tyre/flex?

It’s cool cos it makes me feel like I’m riding a motorbike…vroooom!

I had to trim a tiny bit from the mount as it was just catching the crown on full bottom out, but I don’t bottom out that often. If it’s hitting the tyre, make sure it’s adjust correctly with the shims.
