Eyeware, Whats you lot wear?

After Saturday and the utter bog fest at Cannock , I decided I need some glasses. Had a look round and 😯 . I don’t really want to blow that sort of cash on glasses, so one of the lads suggested screw fix. Bolle safetys tinted, lightweight and look just like the flash ones! Are they destined to fail???

They’ll work. I only buy Oakley as I have little else in life to get excitied about.

I think that I have the Bolle safetys. Bought them from ebay and they do the job alright.

Safety glasses area good bet for cheap and cheerful riding glasses.

Try and get something that has a frame that fully encases the lens. Mrs MW saw three patients last Summer that had facial injuries caused by the lens of their glasses cutting chunks out of them.

I used to use Oakley half jackets for riding but changed to a pair of enclosed lens glasses after getting a graphic description of the injuries!

Bolle Spiders with clear lenses for me. Look good, cheap (about £5-6) from ebay.

those bolle spiders look great i bought some decathlon sunglasses reduced from 30 to 10 they look a bit like oakley jawbones. i trash glasses riding there is absolutly no point spending seroius money on glasses

Tried the cheap safety glasses route but found out two things.

1. They mist up very easily, usually just as you’re trying to negotiate that rocky/rooty bit on the trail. Not good.

2. The lenses seemed to scratch very easily, quickly making them look like they’re misted up permanently.

Now got vented Specialized glasses like these onesthat, so far have done neither.

My 2p, spend a bit more cash and go for some proper glasses that will last a bit longer and work a bit better.

Cheap Aldi sunnies for riding,£2.99,choice of lens colours,cheap enough to throwaway when scratched.For fishing in bright sunlight I use Maui Jim’s,IMHO (and my optician) the best sunnies lenses available.Fortunately I got my last pair reduced to £130,plus which,they will put a similar quality varifocal in for £300.

I use Bolle ones. Think they are contour.

You can get them with clear, tinted and yellow lenses and they provide UV protection. Get them from a proper health and safety/lab supplier (even radio spares) and they cost about £3-5 so no worries if you lose or damage them.

bought them for the lab but ended up using them cycling. They do a metal frames version but I just use the plastic ones.

Have the Axis ones in the lab and not very comfy with metal frames.

all the eye protection you need for under £6 IMO. I would be worried about breaking anything else.

Bolle BL10s for me… The only criticism I have is, they scratch easily but otherwise they’re better than my proper riding glasses have been, and not so annoying when I lose a set.

Oh, for anti-fog, a wee bottle of Nicwax visorproof will sort out any polycarb glasses, treated or not. About £7 and will last forever.

Prescription Oakley Flakjackets, XLJ shape, bronze polarized tint = £mega

No so good for night or overcast days deep in the woods. But otherwise just brilliant. The XLJ shape does a great job of keeping mud out my eyes.

Or you could fit a “beef-flap” ™ to your forks for pence.

I use either cheapo Bolle safety ones. They scratch easy but hey, at that price they’re disposable. Tend to stick with these for commuting and when the weather is filthy

I also use Bloc Shifters. These are great! 4 different lenses depending on the conditions. A quality bit of kit without spending Oakley money. Fifty dabs on CRC at the moment

I have used a few pairs of the Bolles they are OK. I never use glasses in Winter seems to me that having shit covered lenses is worse than nothing at all. How do people deal with this?

I use the bolles, few quid a go. Buy a few and work out which is the best fit for your face and doesn’t mist up (some designs mist really badly on ma heid).

Decent glasses are nice and all but they wouldn’t last two rides with me before being scratched / lost / sat on in the car. Maybe if you wear spectacles day to day (or you’re female) you’re more used to taking care of things like this and it’ll work for you.

Uvex ones that look a bit like cheap Oakleys. Interchangeable clear, yellow or black fake iridium type lenses.
Cost me nothing c/o cashing in some airmiles that were about to expire, but I think they’re only about 30 notes normally.

Don’t mind so much if they get fragged on the bike. Save the Oakleys for skiing, etc.

That is IME the advantage of decent glasses, they survive a bit of abuse. I always find that a cyclist can never have too many pairs of glasses. My current fav are Giros, the lens is very clear and apparently very scratch resistant (I’ve not had them long enough to confirm though).

Just bought a pair of Polaris “clarity” glasses – not too dear & liking them so far.

For riding i have choice of Oakley Radars, Oakley Pro M-Frames, Oakley Half Jackets and Oakley Jawbones

I have a choice of Tifosi Torrent, Oakley Eye Jacket, Oakley Straight Jacket, Oakley Monster Dog, Endura Angel and Rudy Project Skyman.

Will probably get some Tifosi Fototecs soon, maybe the Slip or the Tyrant.

Being disabled and have to wear prescription glasses. I use bog standard rim less galssed from Asda and pair of Elvex Overspec, bit Roy Orbison but a dam sight cheaper than prescription bike specific eyewear.

lots of different styles in different shades/tints.

i don’t worry about losing/breaking/scratching them cos they’re cheap.

I wear some BBB glasses i got from my LBS. £25 got me the specs, with clear, yellow, and mirrored lenses for the MTB.

Oh, and oakley polarized XLJ Flak jackets for the roady.

This week I am mostly wearing Specialized Adaptalite ones that I bought off the classifieds. Really impressed with the speed of the adaptalite bit.

Got mine off ebay for about £7 delivered.

I do have an expensive pair of these:Spesh Chicane
which are excellent but dear. The adaptalite lenses are great when leaving a fire road onto a darker bit of singletrack.
