I think the grey mark is an error, I.ve VTd two cars with Volkswagen, and gone on to do two further PCP deals with them and my equifax score remained at 999 for the whole time. They actually confirmed it did not affect my credit rating.

As per my post above, it’s not something that would affect your “score” as it’s ‘right and proper’ it WILL affect your real world credit worthiness – “scores” are nonsense really.

I’m not guessing at this, I was a credit underwriter for a decade.

I believe the keys on newer cars log mileage history themselves, independent of the car ecu.  Most manufacturers also log mileage on a service system, rather than giving you a service book.

We’re looking at VT for my in-laws car. It’s the easy way out and won’t affect his future borrowing as he’s now got dementia and is forbidden from driving.

I’m not going to fiddle the mileage, regardless of whether you think I’m morally corrupt for wanting to VT or not, I’m not THAT morally corrupt.

Been to Skoda this pm, they’re not interested in a part ex and weren’tt particularly forth coming with trying to work out a deal. We’ve been in to several dealerships to discuss various cars this weekend and found all of the sales people to be fairly useless. They’ve all been “nah, we can’t do that” and that’s the end, no “but hang on, maybe we could do this.”

Not doing the morals thing, which TBF I don’t think is being wriggled on at all, just the maths.

Thanks fella, I am just trying to work out what is financially the most sensible way forward!

I don’t see any dishonesty either, the OP is asking a simple question to help him satisfy his obligations in the best way.

Really surprised they were not interested in a PX as they just punt it on via auction. Saying that, after years of buying from my mate at the local Ford garage I have noticed since he packed in that other garages and salespeople are generally useless. Had a good one at Colne BMW and like Chris at Ripon Land Rover but have been underwhelmed by the Ford garage since Steve left, BMW  Harrogate, Alfa/Fiat, Nissan, Seat, Hyundai and VW.

For the record with ours they just told us the value (Looked on their system at the top and bottom price similar cars had sold at auction for then said our PX would be somewhere in-between), got the settlement figure from BMW then told us what it would cost per month for what we wanted. We had to do nothing else and will simply hand our car to them when we collect the new one just as you would with any PX.

Me too, then I got to thinking about the sales cycle and new reg releases.. perhaps all the sales guys have hit their targets..

Even so you’d expect a low ball offer as it’s free money for them.

See what webuyanycar.com value it as as many dealers will use them to underwrite their trade in offer.

I’m just surprised by the lack of effort. A few years ago I PCP’d a mini and the sales woman there was great. It was at the top end of what I wanted to spend and I was reluctant to spend more. But she kept tweaking g here and there, dropped the Apr, offered twice the advertised finance contribution, free servicing. She really wanted to get me in a mini!

This time all the sales peeps have just tapped a few figures into a finance calculator, gone “there you go” and that’s it. Out of half a dozen garages visited, I’ve not had one call following up with me.

I must just come across as a time waster I guess!!
