    Hello, any recommendations for a good employment solicitor in Birmingham UK?

    Looking for guidance regarding a redundancy process I am currently going through, specifically the collective consultation piece that in my opinion was rushed and handled very poorly

    Have you tried ACAS? Helpline is free and could help you before you engage a solicitor.

    0300 123 1100, also have a look on the website as there is specific advice about redundancy on there.

    I have no recommendations but, why does geography matter? Don’t you deal with them all by phone / email / post these days?

    Also CAB, maybe. I contacted one in, ooo, Sutton Coldfield I think? Had a free half hour initial consultation, just to see if there was anything worth pursuing. But that was years ago, don’t remember who or where they were. ACAS, CAB and the solicitors were all aligned in what they advised, which made things simpler for me. You can’t have too much advice, I don’t think!

    Check your house insurance – quite often you get some sort of general legal advice covered there (they were better than ACAS in my scenario)

    I’d think carefully about going down that route, in reality it could turn into a massive pain and expense. I assume you’ve been selected for redundancy hence the query? They may have messed up the consultation but even if you win a tribunal things won’t be as they were before. At best you might have some leverage for an enhanced redundancy package but may be not.

    Really you need to just find an employment lawyer locally who can give you a realistic view of whether you have a case or not.

    You’re probably better off cutting your losses and moving on, for many people redundancy leads to better things, put your energy into finding a better job rather fighting your existing employer which will be overwhelmingly a negative experience.

    Either way it’s a horrible thing to go through, especially at this time of year, I’ve been through it too many times on both sides of the fence.

    Good advice from @stumpyjon

    It’s a question of personal priorites and what’s best for you.. you could fight it and still end up out on your ear with a slightly better deal than what’s on offer, but you have to balance that with the stress and effort on your part, that might well be put to better use by cutting your losses and focus your efforts on moving on, on balance.

    I ain’t saying it’s right, I’m just being realistic.

    That said, its worth a consultation, most solicitors will talk it through with you for free, assuming you have all the info they need to hand, so they can advise you properly…so you can then better decide whether to persue it legally or cut your losses.

    What do you want? Money or to prove a point.

    If its purely a point thing dont bother.
