Whist on the locking phones subject – there’s worrying reporting about folks phones getting snatched and the info being used to shift thousands from their accounts before try could block such activity.

Latest Android release has some protection for this now – no idea how good it is but probs better than nothing.

Automatic AI-powered screen lock for when your phone is snatched. Theft Detection Lock is a powerful new feature that uses Google AI to sense if someone snatches your phone from your hand and tries to run, bike or drive away. If a common motion associated with theft is detected, your phone screen quickly locks – which helps keep thieves from easily accessing your data.

it’s a good idea generally but just a red-herring in this instance. No-one is getting access to your bank accounts just because they have your unlocked phone and nothing else.

The 2 scenarios I’ve read about involving money actually being taken via a stolen phone have been 1) mugged and then PIN/password etc extracted at knifepoint (not much you can do about that!!), 2) thief observes you entering PIN carelessly and then steals phone (on an iPhone this would just give access to Wallet for contactless payments rather than banking apps, etc)

Yeah I assume it’s aimed primarily at phone snatchers – but they’re probably just after the hardware anyway.

    2) can be mostly negated by using fingerprint faceID
