I’m looking at El Mariachi and checking Salsa website at 5′ 7″ it suggests a size Small. Checking the geometry compared with my current frame (Orange Evo 6) the effective top tube on the medium is still shorter than the Evo.

Wondering if anyone about my height has an El Mariachi and what size they went for.

    Thanks

As a bit of a guide i’m 6′ with a 32″ inside leg and Mrs ssstu’s medium El M fits me fine.
She’s 5′ 9″ with a 33″ inside leg and it fits her fine too. 🙂

Thanks for the reply. Think it’s probably going to be a small that would fit best. What length of stem are you running?

I am 5’7′ and ride a small Mariachi running a 100mm 7 degree rise stem , flipped upside down with Mary bars.
I would think if you have normal bars you would get away with a 80mm or shorter one as the Mary’s do come back a bit further than other bars.

Sorry to bump a thread. I keep looking at the El Mariachi but the sizing is doing my nut!!I am just under 5’8″ (31″ inseam) I fit into the small/medium bracket, however with the small I would have oodles of seat post on show. The top tube on the small looks similar in length to that of my 16″ io (I couldn’t find where Genesis take their measuremnts from) but I my gut says it will be too small (can’t get a ride on one). Can anyone who has got one, sells one advise me?? Would the medium be too large??

    Cheers

I’m 5’7″ and ride a medium. It will depend what you want it for though. Mine is aimed at long bikepacking days rather than mucking about in the woods. I have a 350mm seatpost close to its minimum insertion level. Also make sure you are looking at the right geometry charts as the frames changed slightly for 2013. If you are anywhere near Edinburgh you could have a ride on mine.

I am looking at it as an endurance machine. I have a 5″ FS for fun 😀 I think it’s 2012 (jungle green colour)
    What year is yours??

That’s a medium? Wow, it looks like a small. Is it as good as they say for mile munching??

As regards sizing, I was able to get a demo Mamasita (same geometry) through a local Salsa/Surly dealer as I was in a similar dilemma to yourself. ISON have a small fleet of demonstrators so it might be worth asking around locally.

Early days for giving feedback – I’ve mostly been on the Fatbike this winter. I should be picking up some rigid forks this weekend and hope to give it a decent ride in that configuration next week – probably in Bikepacking mode.

I’m 5’7” and ride a 2012 small with an inline seatpost and a 50mm stem. All my other bikes are medium though, so it was a bit weird buying a small frame! Its lovely!

Think I will go medium, as there will be around 10 feet of seat post on show if I get a small.

Good choice – I’m 5’6″ and ride a small Mariachi and Selma. Medium will be spot on for your usage, enjoy!

I am 6’0″ and I ride a 2012 medium. I used a 400mm seatpost which has quite a bit of space left on it. It has some medium rise bars and a 90mm stem.

Finally, to compare back to your dilemma, I also ride a 17.5″ Genesis Altitude which I believe shares geometry with the io.

Similar dilemma here with the Horsethief at 172cm. i’m a medium-ish bloke in my head, can’t quite get my head around ordering a ‘small’ frame. But the info says I should.

I always look at ETT first. Seat post doesn’t really matter, provided the post is long enough I think.

The geometry changed in 2011 I think – its now 17/19 for small/med. Previously it was 16/18. I ride an old shape 18″ as am 6′ 2″, but that’s with a 400mm post. Salsa would prefer I had larges, but they are too long in the top tube for me. At 5′ 7″ you’ll probably be best on the 17″, whatever Salsa call that now.

I think nowadays, especially with 29ers, ‘smalll’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘for small people’, it means ‘the smallest we make’.

    17″ is a medium 15″ is a small.
