    Ok briefly….

    Bought a used tablet.

    Turned out to have a fault with battery.

    Contacted seller and formally requested a return via EBay too.

    Initially seller very helpful. Says he can replace with another identical tablet if I want. I go with that option.

    Stupidly I close the return case as I thought closing that would then allow me to choose the Replacement option…. Of course it doesn’t.

    Also sent off the faulty unit, recorded, in meantime. Dumb.

    Now seller gone all quite when messaged and I ask for postage details….

    In my own defence, this is my first negative experience on eBay after over 800 transactions. On top of that I very much tend to think the best of people. I still do even after this experience. I find most people in life are pretty decent human beings. This experience won’t change that.

    So….

    After closing the return…. Can I still launch a case with eBay/PayPal?

    I’ve got all the messages regarding the return/replacement in the eBay messaging system including my proof of posting the tablet back. Tracking info etc.

    I’ve not yet left feedback on the guys profile either…

    He has single digit feedback (all good) and is a very new seller. I know,I know…

    Rather then attempting to dissect my slightly naive outlook on life, some real info/ advice would be helpful guys.

    How long has it been since you sent it back?

    What is the feedback record of the seller.

    It might not be a total disaster yet, they might not have had a chance to look at it?  The feedback should give you a decent idea of what to expect.

    Good luck trying to speak to Ebay……they are a vast conglomerate and don’t have staff for stuff like this….its all automated.

    Worth trying the phone route to get the case re-opened as you “accidentally” clicked on the close case button.

    i’ve rung ebay a few times over the years, always been pretty decent

    click on help and contact us top left of the screen, and scroll right to the bottom, if you are signed in your get a contactID so your details pop up at ebays endEstimated waiting time:  1 minute

    Super super super false. Wrong.

    Ebay have fantastic customer service – I’ve had to phone them twice and both times the chap on the phone was amazingly polite and professional, understood my issue straight away and got things sorted almost immediately. In one case I was a buyer, and one case a seller (so I don’t believe they treat buyers or sellers differently.)

    Had a couple like this, “please close return and we’ll send another” never close and just continue with return. Obviously no help to yourself :-/

    This has been my experience too. Unfortunately the scammers will try every trick under the sun to get you to close the case as then (as you’ve found) the matter is “settled”. Defo try ringing eBay and/or Paypal and speaking to someone.

    Or email them – I’ve also had very quick resolution just by emailing them through the ‘contact centre’

    Can be a nightmare finding where the email us bit is but quick response ime.

    I have spoken with ebay twice this week and they have been very helpful. A parcel that I sent had gone missing and  I cannot fault their customer service.

    Also bear in mind that they will be able to see all of your communication with the seller so this should help you.

    I’ve also had some luck calling ebay.  You need to keep it really simple to avoid confusing matters, write it down first and condense it into a few short sentences, factual only.  Don’t be emotional, be patient, persist.

    I rang them as I sold a trailer and was unexpectedly stung with a huge selling fee for an item I thought was selling under ebay motors.

    The guy was not afraid to challenge and claimed equestrian > horse boxes and trailers (£250 fee) was the only correct category, despite lots of horse trailers being listed in ebay motors > trailers (£15 listing fee only) with a drop down box tagging it as a horse trailer.

    Took a little persistence but in the end they refunded the full £250 fee!  They still claimed that the ebay motors section was wrong and said they would have cancelled my listing, but all the dealer type sellers and clued up private sellers were listing and selling within the ebay motors section.

    My PC crashed the other week while chatting to ebay CS about a surface dock I bought. In a few minutes they called me on my landline to apologise for losing me online. They then provided prompt replies on email until it was sorted.
