So, bought a thing off ebay Tuesday. They used ebay’s buy postage thing so had a tracking number Tuesday evening and it showed collection was due Wednesday.

Wednesday morning the ebay tracking and hermes website both showed the item had been collected by the courier and was in its way.

Wednesday evening tracking on ebay had the message that whilst the package had been collected, there was an issue with it whilst in transit.

Hermes tracking in their website now shows the item is still due for collection for this Wednesday gone.

Messaged the seller, they’ve had no contact from hermes and don’t know what is going on either.

So, anyone had any experience of this? Will my item turn up anyway and its just a glitch with the tracking or shall I start putting in my item not received claim now?

Was it actually collected? If it’s past the date eBay said you would receive it then raise a note but saying that you still want it. At least it’s in place and puts onus on seller to do chase it.

It’s the seller responsibility to get the item to you safely. But you may need to wait a week or so after the proposed delivery date to claim. Just keep good communication with the seller and watch the tracking for now I’d suggest.

As it’s Hermes it could be anything from a vehicle brake down or accident, driving into a ford and flooding the van or a vehicle fire to just not bothering to deliver the item (most likely).

Hermes recently lost an item I sold on eBay. The tracking showed some BS about road closures. I followed it up through eBay Packlink’s customer service who contacted Hermes who confirmed they’d lost the package. Packlink also gives the seller access to more detailed tracking. I’d ask the seller nicely if they could follow up through Packlink.

On the flipside, as a buyer, I’ve had the same tracking message on a Wiggle package, which turned up fine a few days later.

I’d message the seller politely again and ask if they can follow up via Packlink. Hermes tracking is mostly okay, but sometimes goes random ime.

Definitely collected. I’ll mention to the seller to see if Packlink have better info.

There are rumours when doing a Google search on the issue that hermes couriers are just nicking stuff or dumping stiff to meet collecting numbers etc but not sure whether there’s anything in that.

I’m not worried about getting my money back or anything. More I got a good item at a good price and really want it!

I have seen it before and it was an internal Hermes thing when they had a deal and the process seemed to go back a few steps and start again but I got it the next day.

It’s probably a Hermes thing. I’ve had “waiting for collection” even after receiving the item and the received item email.

Thanks all – seller is at least communicating with me well at the moment so we will see where we get to.

Obvs I have screenshots of the various tracking statuses (stati?) and am keeping all the comms from the seller but given they agree at this stage it looks to be a Hermes issue I have no worries about getting a refund.

It is if it gets updated to ‘delivered’ but using Hermes standard definition of delivered (ie it could be ****ing anywhere) that things may get more complicated.

Definitely a Hermes thing. There’s a reason why they have the nickname “Herpes”.

Good news – the item has arrived despite the tracking still showing problems 🙂

    Panic over…
