have lots of ceilings to paint. any tips how to pickup and pour a massive tub into a roller tray without getting it everywhere?

I use an old tin mug to transfer it – three or four scoops is all you need to fill the roller tray. Make a hook out of an old spoke and hook it over the side of the big tub to stop the cup sinking in the paint…

Use a plastic plant pot or similar to dip in & pour into the roller tray? Take the plants out first though.

You only need to use a bit & once you can properly tip it, it becomes a lot easier.

5 pack of plastic pint glasses from some supermarket. Use one as a scoop & leave it in the paint with a corner paint free and sticking out. Use the other pint glasses as little tubs to hold when you’re painting in the edges. Throw them all away after job finished.

    I’ve used a ladle from the 99p shop before…

Just pour it in and have a brush to hand to wipe the edge.
Get on with it and stop giving it a coat of looking at. 🙂

I just pour it into the roller tray, but depends how big the ‘massive tub’ is. Pour then catch any excess on the tub with a brush.

Cut a scoop out of a 4 pint milk container then when the level is well clear of the top pour and wipe with brush as said above

I pick it up and lean it to one side until the paint drops in the tray.
Once the tray is full reverse the motion and return the pot to the ground.

In other useful advice. Get a roller on an 2m long pole. It’ll be much much easier.

A brush and a damp rag.

It’s a 12litre pot you guys obviously work out more than me….or have more confidence in your paint pouring abilities. Good tip on the longer pole too.

I don’t get it. What are you pouring the paint into, an eggcup? Why can’t you just pick it up by the handle with one hand and tilt the bottom with the other? Brushing off the excess as others have advised. Am I missing something?

12l is about 12kg there or there abouts. You can lift your bike up and turn it over? Right?

Just pour it with a bit of gusto and it’s not messy. It’s when you faff around trying not to spill it that it goes wrong.

I’d stick with scooping – the consequences when the contents of one of the big tubs go ‘gloop’ as they first refuse to pour due to consistency and then it all comes out at once aren’t great.

How did you get it into the car if you can’t lift it up?

I suspect the man from the shop helped him lift it in.

He should ring up and ask him to pop over and help with pouring it out. 🙂

    He could ask his wife?
