    Too many to choose from but stay well clear of Extreme 3 as they are crap, lace hooks snap off within days, no metal sole plate so nails go right through
    I can’t believe they name them extreme but might be the last time I buy de Walt
    Not our problem claim de Walt it’s just someone else using our name

    Amblers every time for me. Even then though when working in the forest I up that to proper forestry boots. Dropped a 30′ beech vertically onto my foot a few months back, buried it such that I had to cut myself out (I was working on my own) but I walked away with barely a scratch. Good investment!

    How do you get away with lone working doing stuff like that?

    You need to understand the different levels of protection that different footwear is rated to. If you want something with penetration resistant mid-sole then get something with an S3 rating. You can’t just go by a perception of protection from the marketing name.

    Fair enough you can do what ever you like.

    But do you not think that little tale shows that it’s quite foolhardy?

    I’m perfectly happy with my DeWalt Lasers. Midsole protection (because I looked at the specs before buying….) and one of the few black boots I could find without a sweaty plastic bag waterproof membrane (as I don’t need fully waterproof).

    I just presumed most steel cap boots were mid sole protected, Dickies never had a problem and why give them a name like extreme as they are not fit for much without the lace hooks

    Sort of. I never expected it to be an especially ‘safe’ activity though, so it’s all relative. What I did learn is to plan my cuts on windblown hanging trees better. Much better.

    I find deWalt steelies are a little narrow at the start of the cap, and due to my triangular hobbit shaped feet they press in from the sides. Most uncomfy.

    Of course I wear them when needed because a little side pressure is little to worry about compared to crushed tosies.

    @benpinnick

    What’s the sizing like on Amblers?

    Cheers

    @kilo – slightly on the large side. That said I have flat feet so I get the size I want, add an insole (which helps sustain the boots as I alwys find the insides go long before the outers do as they’re well built) and I am done.

    Shoe selfie!

    DeWalt Chicago’s here – had them for years (not the same pair!). Comfy and long lasting (~2years per pair daily use)
