Good call on the pump rooms.

Set to be a lovely day, might do the whole open air tourist bus thing before lunch, then let her drag me around the shops before a trip to the Pump Rooms, busker watching in the centre then something else.

Haven't been to Bath in years…any pubs you could recommend?

Bath is really pretty I am usually rushing around working so don't get to do the pubs. The pump rooms could make a nice interlude on a days date http://www.samwellersph.co.uk/

This used to be a good pub in the middle of town ,not been for a while though

It's gonna be a nice hot day tomorrow, so a walk round town centre taking in the sights and end up in the park with a bottle of champers and a punnet of strawberries. Jobs a good un!

Sally Lunn's tea shop for unique bath bun and cup of tea. Loads of history and well worth it!

I used to skateboard there in my late teens/early 20s, I remember the vert ramp being pretty sketchy.

Okay, I'm going to take her to the Fashion Museum as she's into that sort of thing and should win points…either that or she'll think I'm gay.

The picnic idea is a good one, will have to be alcohol free though as we're both driving.

I suppose there'd be no harm in stopping off at a bike shop…

I'm aware of John's Bikes, but there must be some other bicycle emporiums of fine standing in Central Bath?

There's loads of decent pubs in and around Bath. In the evening The George at Batheaston has good beer and excellent food and is right on the Kennet and Avon Canal, so you can go for a stroll along the canal, there's Henrietta Gardens which are nice and shady, over Pulteney Bridge, or you could walk right down Great Pulteney Street to Sydney Gardens and up to the K&A canal and walk along there for a bit towards Batheaston and you get great views across the East side of the city and up towards Solsbury Hill. You could even go up Solsbury Hill in the evening and see if you get an eagle fly out of the sky. Certainly you'll get the lights of the city, the wind will blow, and time might, quite possibly stand still. Actually, if she's the sort of girl you describe she might well appreciate going and visiting the source of one of Peter Gabriel's hit songs. His studio's not far away in Box.

Unfortunately, I neglected to mention the fact that she is flakier than a brunette reclining in a slowly overflowing free standing bath tub on the upper floor of a 14th century French chateau and true to form has just bailed out, via text message.

This has happened once too often for me, so I've just ended it…at which point she turns on the tears! WTF? You'd wish it would be as simple as having a nice day together in a beautiful city on one of the hottest days of the years, but it never is.

Maybe it's like they say…..men are from Mars, women are from Broadmoor.

Multiple counts of being utterly thoughtless and flaking out of dates via text message.

    Previous notable instances include:

    – Texting me on the morning of my 30th birthday to inform me that she wouldn't be coming to stay as had been rearranged due to the fact that she was 'skint', this from a girl who earns a not unreasonable £25K and lives with her parents rent free.

    – Texting me at six on a Friday night to bail out when we were supposed to be going to see Florence and the Machine (yeah, lucky escape…but she loves them and the tickets had been purchased months in advance) due to some frankly incomprehensible existential crisis.

Well if you're in Bath already then head to Cadence – its the newest bike shop in town and its well stocked with friendly staff.

Is Cadence any good? Stumbled across it whilst going for a coffee at what used to be Kindling but it was closed.

Good call by the OP to finish the silly cow too. Have a wander around the threads here, there'll be someone offering up a sister I'd imagine. If not in chat try the classifieds for a lightly ridden one in good condition

Amy is a lot like my new Commencal…

a lot of fun when the going is easy, but a bitter bloody uphill struggle the rest of the time!

If she's like that now then she's not going to improve… Find someone else and let someone else put up with her, oh, and obviously post those pics you've got tucked away 😉

Yep, worth popping in. Its how every good bike shop should be – upstairs room full of shiney bikes to gorp over, lower level has fully stocked workshop, and the middle bit has spares, tool and clothing. Its not cheap, but I don't expect it to be as its the service that counts and they need to make a profit to keep going. Much friendlier than Johns' too

"utterly thoughtless"? I've recently been censured for exactly the opposite. Men! 🙄 😆

There's a difference, I feel, between having to cancel on someone occasionally due to unforseen circumstances, and a prevailing can't-be-arsedness. Obviously this is only one side of a story, but it gives the impression that the lady in question has the OP fairly low on her list of priorities.

"I can't come out, I'm skint" is particularly galling, as if it were me least, my reply would have been "I'm taking you out on a date, what do you need money for?" If skintness applies to both sides (or if she really means "you never buy me a drink you miserable tightwad") there's plenty of things to do that don't cost anything. How much will a walk in the park feeding the ducks set you back? Or hell, a night in with pizza and a movie followed by some bedroom enthusiasm isn't exactly going to break the bank either.

Strikes me that if you can't talk to each other sufficiently to organise a date without a) her coming up with lame excuses and b) the OP being unable to provide solutions to said excuses, it probably wasn't to be.

But yeah, sorry dude, that sucks.
