Cotic Rocket. Anyone tried one/got one?

I’m going to be in the market for a new full suss frame soon and just seen this. Looks like it might be ideal..Anyone out there tried one?

Yup – done a couple of day rides on one. Liked lots. Solid feel, climbs brilliantly, descends and handles well, not as heavy as people make out. Had fun on it.

One is on the shopping list.

I have one and love it.
Demoed one at the Dales Centre and bought one soon after.
Its no lightweight-Frame weight for a Large is about 8lbs and built up was about 31lbs with Revelations. Swapped to Fox 36 forks put weight up to 33lb.
Now put some Fox 32 150 Kashima on and back to 31lbs
Climbs really well with lots of traction and is fantastic on descents.
Long low and slack is how I would describe it.

how tall are you?

I’m seriously interested but worried that, at 6’3″, I might be a bit big for it.

I know Cy is the same height as me but we’ve established that I’m longer in arm than him (I ride an XL solaris)

I am six foot (although for some reason some people say I am taller!!!!)
I think they are just shorter than they say!!
Running a 70mm stem and Reverb with saddle in the middle of the rails (pretty much)
Would nt say I was particularly long or short in arm or leg-just normal.
I have ridden Stu at the Dales centre Solaris and his legs are way longer than mine but not sure if hes actually much taller-not sure that helps cos dont know what size the bike is but it was fine!
I normally ride Large bikes or 19/20″

8LB? Seriously? I thought it’d be closer to 6 1/2lb (serious, not a troll). I picked up the one on display at the Greno/Mini DH and it didn’t feel heavy at all.

Frame was weighed on some digital scales a mate has prior to building up-can only say they will be reasonably accurate (at the very least)
I am told that a medium is about 7lbs-again whehter this is true I dont know.

Easy weight loss by changing seatpost, tyres and wheels would drop it under 30lbs if you were bothered-but I am not

Mediums is supposed to be mid-7s, so pretty much in the ballpark for a durable hard-use metal 160mm frame… Not light but not outlandishly heavy.

Cleaning it might save you a couple of lbs as well 🙂

Your having a laugh-its sat in the garage gleaming and waiting for the weekend!!!
Its in that honeymoon period at the minute where its cleaned after every ride.
Its got a couple of stone chips in the paint and am gutted!!! Even wen otu to find touch up paint for the first time ever!

I would say very stable on the decents and it climbed surprisingly well too. The weight was definatly noticable coming off a 21Lb full-suss but I would describe it as ‘not as heavy-feeling as I was expecting’ if you know what I mean, I think the fact that it was such a hoot on the downhills meant I carried more momentum into the uphill sections and that offset the weight to some extent. It suited the Lee Quarry course anyway.
I basically got onto it, had a couple of minutes to change tyres and then raced it, and it was fine, none of the worries with handling that I usually get from an unfamiliar bike, the only thing I couldn’t get my head around was the front shiftr, kept catching it by mistake and engaging granny ring unintentially. This was a) nothing really to do with the frame and b) very easy to fix by just moving it out of the way.

Definate contender when my big bike finally gives up. Thanks to rather poor warranty supprot from Silverfish and the extreemly helpful Cotic chaps the Rocket is now way above a 575 on my shopping list.

I tried one on a day ride with AQR and have to say it was a great ride.It was brand spanking new and I thought it probably flattered my riding downhill but not my fitness up! I was putting that down to altitude at the time. I would get one if I had the spare cash and space.

Some good info on that thread metalheart, thanks. I do find the “right material, wrong material” quite funny….but TBH if I like the way a bike rides I couldn’t give a monkey’s if is made of mud and twigs.
It looks like a nice bike, the geo looks good. I need me a test ride…

I’ve got one and really like it. I’d say its not a bike for huge distances, but for literally everything else its really great. I only ride for about 3 hrs max, so for me its close to perfect.

Interesting. Why would you not choose it for an all day ride?

because, to my mind/legs, its a bit heavy duty for that kind of thing. Maybe you are stronger/younger than me. I’m usually spent after 3 hrs hard riding
I used to have a trek ex and I could go for longer on that, but I had light wheels and tyres. On the rocket I’ve got heavier duty wheels and tacky heavyish tyres. Its more fun like that, but not a long distance bike. The rocket climbs as well as the Trek. I guess you could build with light wheels etc, but its not really what its designed for.

Thanks, that makes sense. I guess when I think long distance I’m thinking remote Scottish mountain stuff, where I guess you’d want a pretty heavy duty bike as well. But for longer rides in more welcoming surroundings I can see that you’d want more of an XC bike.

Ive never ridden epic scottish rides, I think I will next summer. I probably could ride it all day if I paced myself.

Back again!
I can see what endisnigh is saying but I have ridden mine for 4 hours up to now and that was in 33lb guise and whilst I was a little more tired and slower than on my Superfly I was still ok.
Hoping to do some big Lakes rides on it and would be happy riding it all day-just slower on the ups but not on the downs.

Err, the demo loop I did in the above linked thread was a four/five hour Scottish classic and includes a grinding 1.5 hour climb right from the off. I did the same loop at least 3 other times this year and the Rocket was the most fun. I’ve ridden it on three different hardtails and I was a lot less fatigued on the rocket. Although the 29er comes close…

If the bike isn’t set up for the task in hand then it’s not set up. Stick the same wheels on a hardtail, would that be just as inappropriate?

Obviously there are other factors involved including fitness and weather.

I had a Chumba – it felt very awkward. Hard to explain and no ideas on the figures/angles but on the trail/just throwing your leg over it didn’t feel ‘sit in’/comfy etc.

As mentioned earlier (I’ve no idea on them) – but on FarmerJohns DH race I saw ALOT of Nukeproof Mega’s.

I Think those were mainly Scalps not Megas.

You should demo a Rocket Hora, I think you’d be surprised at how it rides

Mega is a nice bike. And helped by the frame costing about half as much as most equivalents.
