COTIC Escapade … sizing thoughts pls

Hi, considering  one of these for predominately bumpy country roads (roads around here are pretty poor), lanes and a maybe a bit of bridlepath to link roads, but not for off-road as my mtb will do that.  Pleasant pootling to work up a bit of a sweat, but no Strava timings, comfort is key!

I’m bang on 5’11” , pretty average/standard arm/leg lengths, so either M or L.  My mtb, I tend to prefer a slightly smaller frame.  Any user recos or guidance?

I’d say you need a drop bar reference point to work from. Get a demo on any drop bar bike or borrow one for an hour. Then you can compare on reach and stack

There is no way i could ride one. I’m quite inflexible and the bars are too low for me. The head tube is too short. Of course it might be perfect for you

I have one of the older ones but the geo looks similar. As above they are quite long and low so you’d probably be best to try one. Size down it might be too low, size up it might be too long.

I’m 5’11 and recently bought a medium Escapade and absolutely love it. I have a 56cm road bike and a large hardtail MTB frame and the medium feels pretty much spot on for me.

I’m very happy with the medium, I’m prob at the top end of the height range but I didn’t want to be too stretched out on it.

It comes with a 100mm stem and a straight seatpost, so I could swap to longer or layback to get a little extra range if needed, but I don’t feel it’s needed.

I’m using it 50/50 on and off road rather than purely on road and it’s taken it all in its stride 🙂

Not sure of the reach numbers, but my (old) road bike, an Airborne, is 56cm frame with a 56cm top tube, and v comfortable for a few hours.

COTIC have medium and large demo bikes set up, if you can get over for a spin.

As for bar height, you don’t need deep drops and a slammed stem… set the height at whatever suits you.

Also 5’11 on a Medium and it fits great. Had a 56cm Singular Kite before the Escapade which also fitted great.

Seems that roadie fashion slammed stems still dominate rather than bike fit.

5ft 9 ish – riding Large Oranges and thought I’d need a Large Escapade – Medium (as per a chat with Cotic) is spot on though I did swap the 100mm stem for a 90mm

I’m 5’11” too. I’ve got an older Escapade and it’s medium, I like to size slightly small. I’ve also got a medium MK1 Solaris, a 56cm X and a large Rocket (Rocket is good but there’s not much standover on a large) And a medium Orange Alpine 5.

5’10” but long in the body – medium/56 is good for me.

6′ and on a large. Recently fitted a shortish (80mm) stem and wider (480mm) bars and it’s maybe a touch short. I am all torso, though.

FWIW, I’m not in any way flexible and manage fine with the short HT and a neg. rise stem.

Owned two.

Tyre clearance is too small.

Frame felt dead an un-responsive.

Sizing is wrong, was recommended a small based on my size and it was too short and had massive front tyre overlap issues.

Also its a lump weight wise and definitely does not have that steel is real ride everybody cherishes.

Shame really, I have had a BeFe and currently have a Sodamax hardtail.

both built up to be really good bikes with spot on sizing/geometry.

In fact the Sodamax is so good I will never sell or replace it.

Since the Escapas=de I have had a Ribble CGR and a Canyon Grizl. Both way better than the Escapade by many country miles.

As much as i love Coptic and have huge respect for its owner, when it comes to gravel bikes, spend your money elsewhere.
