Wife fancies a week in Cornwall this summer. Where would folk recommend staying? I know nothing of the place except Padstow{Rick Stein}, Newquay{Surfing},Pasties{Ginsters*} and Land’s End{where the land ends}.

She likes the finer things in life so good food and comfy hotels. HOWEVER she has just let slip that she wouldn’t be averse to roughing it a bit in terms of camping etc???

So from low-end luxury acommodation to camp sites, anything cosidered. Mainly interested in which place to base ourselves really….Thank you in advance.

*I’ve a feeling these aren’t really authentic Cornish

porth is a bit newquay overspill for me, i personally would avoid that stretch of coast..

the county is hugely varied, depends what you want out of it.

i live in the far sw, its not as touristy as some other parts (perranporth, newquay et al) although there is trad seaside and tourist tack if you want it. also benefits from beaches on all coasts, open high moors, some nice out the way places and a decent bit of culture via galleries.

be warned though, the county has been crazy busy the last few summers. my local beach you cannot park at unless you are there before 9am – bl””dy tourists!!!

Going in June so shouldn’t be too busy, I understand English school holidays don’t start till a bit later? What’s the public transport links like? No bikes on this trip and wondering if bus and trains will allow us to get around and see more than just wherever we choose to stay?

So Gav, your bit of Cornwall isn’t as touristy as Newquay or it’s overspills, yet you still can’t get parked at the beach unless you go before 9am becaause of tourists? Mmm

    St. Ives.

Several campsites between Hayle and Helston. We always used to stay at Boscrege by Godolphin Cross. Very quiet. That area puts you easily in touch with North *and* South coasts, and if you hang a left you can get to the end of the country too!!!!
We often found if it was dull/drizzle/rain on one coast, drive 10-12 miles across and the other was sunny!
    best of luck
