Need to choose a new company car, only VW or Audi available, anyone want to express and opinion?

Was thinking A3 Sportback, A4 estate, Golf, Scirocco. All very different but not sure what I fancy.

Three of them are essentially the same car and the A4 isn’t that diffent, so pick a badge, what toys you want and an engine. My wife had two A4s. The first one fell apart but she had done 177,000 by the time it went back; second one was better.
If you want a diesel the 140 2.0 is not bad, very good on real world roads for quick safe overtakes; petrol I wouldn’t know about.
Wife is currently between company cars but the next one will be an A3 sportback.

igm, was steering towards (pun intended) the A3 Sportback, testing one this weekend, 2.0TDI, may see if they have one of the 1.4/1.8 TSI petrols if they also have one.

Can I just say that whoever added the tag “vorsprung dork technic” at the top gave me right laugh. Yes I am aware the topic is a bit sad 🙂

If you do decent milage on country or A roads you should try the GTI, there should be deals on the Mark 5 and it is worth the extra tax. I tested the Focus ST, Civic Type R, Megane R26, Leon FR, the Golf had them all beaten in one way or another. Eighteen months on and I still can’t think of anything I would change it for.

The new Passatt is quite nice appeals to me (old fart)

Drove a Golf a few times I found them a nice drive but a bit small and i think that would irritate if I had it as a company car for 2-3 years.

I like Audi’s but I think they are a bit overpriced personally.

I currently have an A3 Sportback 2.0T Quatto and it is a very nice bike friendly car without being a full on estate although it is not really a looker. Before that I had a Golf Mark IV which was very well built and high quality materials but was a bit of a dull drive.

I had major problems with the cooling fans on the Golf – but they were specific to my model. Other than that no problems with the Golf or the Audi

I briefly considered the A4 Avant but it seemed too big for me and quite a bit more expensive at the time after far too many years driving golf sized hatchbacks.

I just could not get on with the older VAG disiel engines (nothing better than a tractor IMO) compared with the common rail BMWs. I would now be tempted by an VAG disiel but not sure how far the new common rail engines have filtered down across the range.

I have an Audi A4 avant 1.8T 190ps good for bikes and gear, bad for fuel consumption – get the 2.0 tdi loose some power but get the fuel economy – wish i had the diesel.
Next upgrade to A6 as the family has grown

I got Golf Mk5 2.0TDI 170bhp model last March. Very fast, corners flat, & love it to bits but on damp roads wheels spin in 3rd gear when turbo comes in unless very gentle with right foot & hence front tyres on lasted 12K miles – I wonder if 140bhp wouldn’t be that much slower, & also cheaper to buy?

A mate’s missus once said to me she was very pleased with his A3 “Splashback”…no word of a lie!
