I am delighted to see the Giugiaro penned Alfa 159 making an appearance given that I have one. The Giulia looks mighty nice too.

+1 for the Citroen SM, original Audi A8 and the Phaeton – a Q car if ever there was one.

Classy is understated elegance, maybe with some stealthy pace but not vulgar, or brash. It’s subtle and a comfortable place to spend time whilst driving to that nice hotel for an absolutely filthy weekend. Ooh I say…

Understated German 60’s class:

Agree that race cars are not classy, they’re tools for a specific job. Likewise road cars that mimic race cars can’t be classy either. Small sports cars are rarely classy as they tend too much towards performance, replacing sophisticated elegance with an agricultural simplicity. Any 911 while being one of the most desirable cars on the planet whether its a Singer or a new GT3, I’d argue is not classy as its image will forever be associated with an 80’s yuppie, and however good is a bit too try-hard to qualify for effortlessness. The presidents C6 is an interesting one…is it classy or in fact so anodyne that it is classless.

That narrows the field somewhat.

Older version Saab 900s had a certain curvy look, still look good IMO. As a previous owner..

A classy classic:

Exactly. The Maserati above would fit the model depositing brief. It’s Pininfarina penned with some graceful angles. It has oodles of heritage without the overloaded crass image associations of Ferrari or Lamborghini. Not that the model would care but it has the mechanicals underneath to give it a specialness above even something like an Aston, yet maintains an air of coolness unlike a shouty supercar, so it occupies an increasingly rarefied ground. Inside it smells like many previously very happy cows were slaughtered to provide it’s plush luxurious interior. Classy.

Most cars over 30 years old and well cared for can be classy in the right situation. My vote goes for one of these:

The Montreal is beautiful & definitely fits the bill. A car calling out for a restomod with a proper drive train. That v8 was comedically unreliable (the mechanical injection had “issues”).

The GranTourismo is gorgeous, but they are so unbelievably heavy that the frustrated engineer in me yells NO! I’ve also seen so many driven hideously by people who should really go and buy a Lambo.

Classy if clean? I thought it was when first purchased about 10 years ago….don’t think the wife would let me take out a vogue model in it though….

I love my Rx7, I think it’s one of the prettiest cars of it’s generation. However, I’m not sure I’d put it down as ‘classy’. Especially not that one up there with the still colour coded front splitter 99 spec wrong and skirts, and that wheel fitment.

Yeah, the Maser does seem to smuggle an extra 2-300kg’s more than strictly necessary, hard to see quite where. In the Italian tradition they do get lighter over time as all the rusty bits fall off.
The owner has many other lightweight 2 seater performance cars in the big shed, this one is a spacious 4 seater GT cruiser so the weight is just about acceptable. Most modern similar things M6, F 599, Rapide are in the same ballpark weight wise but pack more power to compensate, which means they’re clumsily clapping the cymbals at the back of the modern car parade of wrongness…the same parade where 600bhp yet 2.5 tonne performance E-floats with limited range are currently warming up the drums.

That Alfa SZ still looks like its from the future 30 years on. As the model steps out at the Monaco casino you’d say it’s a bold radical yet cohesive design, a statement. So yeah, Classy AF.
