Understatement doesn’t seem to be a thing nowadays, it’s all about being brash. Apart from the Pheaton, which no-one bought. Yes, I know the Aston is a bit flash, but it’s not as in your in your face as a Ferrari 512, the original Range Rover was much less vulgar than the new one and the Daimler never had the image problem of the big BMWs and Audis

Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio. Apart from the cloverleaf on the wing, it’s unbadged, subtle, not loud (its really difficult to make it loud). Happily wafts along in the shadows like an old Jag. Wild when you want it to be, but never unruly. Does 35mpg with ease on runs. Can even throw bikes in the boot.

    That Prairie is awesome!

Classy – to be stylish, sophisticated, elegant and/or graceful.

Fully 70% of what’s been posted doesn’t meet these criteria.

Most DB Astons would fit this description, most Ferraris would not. I’m on the fence about the Maserati above.

Rather than dream about the classy stuff you’d like, I had one on of these at 18 🙂

This was actually my second LC, as the first one (white/blue) I ‘parked’ head on into a Mk3 Cortina a few months before…

@baddad has it. Car oozes class as well as it’s driver in that photo being hypnotically attractive. That’s class.

Classy in respect of the fact that it’s stylish and was one of the finest rally cars of its era, not in the same league as an Aston for example admittedly.

    The Lancia Delta…

There are no. classy cars post the 70’s era. All the classy cars to my mind are the likes of Ferrari Daytona’s, E-Type Jags, Fiat Dino’s, Lambo Muria’s etc. The modern era of cars as soon as people became obsessed with things like power figures, 0-60 times, Nurburgring times which has ruined road cars. Its about cruising down the French Reviera in a Ferrari Daytona or something like that…the sound of the engine, the way the car floats on soft compliant suspension etc. Its that that makes them classy. Modern car engines sound crap, suspension is way too harsh. Just not the same in a modern car of any ilk.

That’s the detective from that police drama set in Sweden I think.

Classy is the remit …. Classy

Anything with stickers, racing numbers or highly visible contrasting brake calipers isn’t classy ….. it’s Southend Sea front stuff !!

I have a secret love of old Mercedes. A chap near me has a lovely car from the 60’s that is busy just rotting in his driveway. Along with the shitty Fiat van, the other shitty Fiat van, the other newer Merc and a BMW.

For me though, this has to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made:

    Mercedes 300SL Gullwing

Everything about it is delightful to me.

    RR Velar
Bentley continental (chrome finishing not black)
    Aston superleggera possibly
    Porsche taycan

    you are joking, right?

Classy is small, old, understated but beautiful.
The Phaeton makes a good wildcard/outlier i think, as its not small, old or beautiful but no one buys a Phaeton for everyone else to look at, its barely noticeably different from a Passat on the outside, but (as i understand it) a masterclass on the inside.

Don’t want to blow any illusions all at once… but she’d get in anything as she owned one of these : A tiger print G-Wiz, defo not a classy car…or is it? Maybe we’ve got it all wrong.

So many classy cars. From the rarefied realms of the unaffordable I would say the Type 57 Atlantic

    Type 57

And the affordable either the Jag XJS V12

    XJS

    Or the Alfa GT V6

    Alfa GT V6

There are so many other contenders though. So, so many…

Ah I was thinking of the “coffin nose” Cord.

Speaking of Gulf liveried cars Binners, this is my favourite.

    T70

I have very fond memories of sitting in the stands watching these and GT40s thundering side by side into the old Woodcote corner.

Oof some seriously un-classy cars here.

A tip, if it’s in racing colours it’s not classy. If it’s a small sports car, it’s not classy. If its a loud brash fire breathing monster, it’s not classy.

There’s a theme here of large Citroens, the DS, CX and C6 posted earlier are just lovely cars. The SM too

The “DS Grand Palais” one-off is a thing of genuine beauty

The XJS was a horrible thing. They were huge on the outside, cramped on the inside, heavy, massively thirsty, and not really very fast. And they were not elegant like the E-type and XJ saloons. I remember reading that some motoring journalists were visiting Jaguar back in the 70s and were left unattended so they wandered into the design studio and saw a mock-up under a sheet. The took a peek and decided that it was so hideous that it couldn’t possibly be intended for production, so they didn’t even bother taking photos. Then, to their surprise, it was later released as the XJS.
