Gone from 660mm 30 mm rise carbon riser to 760mm flat aluminium bar ..back hurts ,shoulders hurt and hands hurt …. Kept stem same height seemed very low with twitchy handling ..
Just going to change back , worst 30 miles I have rode in a long time

That’s quite a big change in one go.

    Indeed.

Stem will put you too far forward, wide bars will pull your shoulders apart and no rise will just pull all your weight onto the front / onto your hands and wrists

If the old one was ok then just go back – or buy a new stem / spacers.

    What size stem?

Thomson 90mm 5 degree , big steerer ..I used to ride with wide flats a long time ago …switched it all back as before anyway I think ideally 700mm wide riser 20 mm rise would be ideal 760 mm feels so wide didn’t feel any difference with my breathing with the wide stance

Play with the angles. Try rolling them forward slightly so the backsweep is kind of aimed at your torso and roll the brakes to a flatter angle. I would find 760 flats far too wide though, 720 is about perfect for flats for me.

This bike does have a 30mm longer stem than recommended, downswept with no spacers so I may not be an ideal example!

If you’re near Leeds I’ve got both 20mm and 38mm rise 740mm bars if you want to try different sizes out?

Can do a very cheap price if they suit you!

    Edit: and a short stem

I think you need to change the stem to get a balance, or go back to the original set up.

    I have 720 flats on my 29er with a 70mm stem, 750mm risers on the ‘Ardcore 26er with a 50mm stem.
