    Their milk chocolate is some of the best still though.

    It really isn’t. Very low cocoa content and bulked out with vegetable fat and sugar. I guess it’s alright if you don’t actually like the taste of cocoa. A bit like a Starbucks Salted Caramel Maple Latte is nice for people who don’t like coffee.

    Tony’s also do some fantastic work on creating a more ethical supply chain. Not that many folk care about such things. I do, so choose to buy their chocolate. Yes, it is a bit more expensive but not only does it taste better, they’re actively trying not to **** people over.

    This may well be true. But like a lot of ethically sourced, organic, fair trade, [insert tree-hugging label here] product, the end result is overpriced crap. I bought a Tony’s something bar, salted caramel maybe. It might well come from sustainable plantations but that’s jeff all use when 80% of it went into the bin.

    no matter what the chocolate snobs think, you can still do a lot worse than Cadburys

    I consider Dairy Milk to be baseline chocolate. Everything else is better or worse than DM.

    For all the wah wah Kraft wah complaints the only real downturn I’ve noticed is in Creme Eggs. I don’t know what they’ve done to them but the chocolate is like wet mortar.

    The Tony’s stuff is nice – and for most of the last couple of months it’s been the cheapest chocolate in Sainsburys because it’s been on spesh. Another excellent Sainsbury’s chocolate is their 55% Peruvian Dark milk – with sustainably sourced cocoa.

    I get all of my chocolate from Läderach in Zurich.

    If I’m too busy to travel there, I get my staff to collect it for me.

    Just wondering what ghastly disgustment the Cadbury bashers on here eat instead?

    Dark(82.7% Coco) chocolate infused with Alpine nettle and just a hint of evaporated Otter P.

    Served with some Swqueem* that has been roasted on top of a log burner.

    * gathered at high altitude  by snowboarding orphans

    You are completely missing what people buy Cadburys for. It’s the taste and texture of a standard milk chocolate , not dark or artisan bollocks chocolate

    We buy posh chocolate which is way different to Cadbury but I didnt think Cadbury was pretending to be artisan rip off choc , just good old choc you first eat as a kid to the day you die

    Around the time Kraft took them over Dairy Milk seemed to leave a mildly unpleasant aftertaste that lingered for hours. That’s gone now, so I think something was subtly tweaked. To be honest I quite like it now and as far as milk chocolate goes it’s relatively healthy compared to most alternatives.

    Certainly nowhere near as rank as Hershey’s

    Which I don’t like. I’d rather have a single square of decent chocolate than a bar of CDM. And if I was going to eat ‘standard milk chocolate, Aldi/Lidl have better options – probably because of their German origins. Even Galaxy has 25% more cocoa in it than CDM. I understand that people are different and have different tastes, but claiming that CDM is decent chocolate is just nonsense.

    Cadbury fruit n nut is my favourite or Galaxy mint especially when farmfoods sell it for 69p but you only have a month to eat it, it usually takes me 20mins max

    There was a bad taste joke about George Michael and a careless wispa but he was a good guy so not going to repeat it

    We bought some locally made chocolate for Christmas pressies the other week. Local couple make it and sell it at the market. Various combinations of milk or dark, with different centres if desired. I think just over 50% of the recipients have actually received their gift, the rest got eaten. Oops.

    It was flipping amazing! And what is more amazing is that the chocolate hit is so intense that you can only comfortably eat one. Two is utterly gratuitous.

    I’m surprised charlie boy doesn’t get his sweeties from them. Maybe I’ll send him a link. Although I’m sure he’s a long time lurker on here.

    Cadburys tastes of fat and sugar to me. It wasn’t until I had some good 70% chocolate called Montezumas, that I realised what chocolate actually tasted like! Cadbury’s so called “dark chocolate” is disgusgusting in comparison. Since then 60% is about  my limit.

    I like a Dairy Milk – but I’m one of those weird folk who like their chocolate from the fridge too!

    As for Royal Warrants…

    a) It never even registered with me that Cadburys had one!

    b) It makes no difference to me if a business has a Royal Warrant or not.

    I really like good dark chocolate of various kinds.  I used to work with small scale cacao producers and have a reasonable understanding of some of the issues associated with the production of commodities in middle income and least developed counties. I would rather buy fair trade stuff (although it’s not a panacea for the inequalities experienced by producers).  But I still like dairy milk and chocolate buttons.

    Far as im aware the ‘fair trade’ logo is a bit of a con.

    I remember seeing something about it with Mars*, where the company, so for example imports 1000 tons of choc beans, and 10 ton of free trade choco beans, they can claim all of their chocolate is ‘fair trade’

    *It may have been another company, but it was one of the big ones.

    They ruined Creme Eggs, they used to use Dairy Milk on them, and then changed it something awful instead. Bet some bugger got a bonus for it, but I bet long term they’ve sold less of them.

    Tony’s for the win, but don’t mind occasional Cadbury’s. Not a big choc fan TBH. Aldi’s with hazelnuts is nice.

    That’s quite a good approach with Cadbury’s, as you don’t get the oily greasy mouthfeel. I like a frozen Mars Bar.

    I’d have been more likely to buy some CDM or Whole Nut if it had been Cadbury’s that had told the royalists to shove their royal warrant up their own chocolate box and then brought out a new bar called the Republican, with an image of Oliver Cromwell and some link to the New Model Army.

    I heard the other day that the “Hershey Process(tm)” came about because they wanted a chocolate with a high melting point to issue as rations to troops out in the sun all day. How true/apocryphal that is I’ll leave as an exercise for the reader.

    Don’t think it’s to do with any displeasure at the company’s trading practices, probably haven’t given Charlie enough freebies.

    Some people think it’s to do with Mondelez still trading in Russia but other companies that retain the warrant still do, like the baby killing Nestle.

    The person  that preferred Toblerone- it’s owned by Mondelez too as is Milka

    Tony’s stuff is vile – I used to like the Lidl Fin Carre bars but since they increased the price so much I’ve switched to their “Simply” chocolate and find it hard to tell them apart at half the price.

    Possibly the same as the theory that M&M’s have the sugar coating spotted on smarties in the Spanish Civil War and then copied. Source was No such thing as a fish podcast.
