Just replacing cable outers. is it impetitive that i use some cycle specific cutters? I have some very good quality side cutters that i can vouch for…

What is the craic with ferrules etc… just check for ovality before the final install?

Immediate advice would be good… got a 1 hour window for fettling.

    Muchos.

Side cutters are much like pliers in this instance, a bit of a bodge for the job.
Why not try using them on an old piece of outer, or just cut a little bit off the end to see how you get on. I suspect you may just mash it a bit.

They are ulra sharpe with minimal use… as long as it is a clean cut that all that matters ain"t it?

Why don't you just give it a go on the every end of the excess cable & see how you get on, then?

It's only the same principle as using secateurs instead of scissors to do garden pruning…

I bought some cheap side cutters from screw fix for this very job, they perform better than the previous bike specific cutters i had which lasted 3 cuts for 3 times the price

park ones are ace, had them years, and they are still good, well worth the money if you plan on using them alot, or for a long time

Dremel with cutoff wheel in , perfect square cut go slow and gentle so as not to melt the plastic

Seriously, as mentioned go to screwfix, and buy the cheap dude cutters with black/ blue handles with orange bits. About a fiver and better than cycling specific ones. Use them to chop through 25mm copper cable… As do alot of other electricians I know.

In desperation I used a chisel and a lump hammer whilst resting the cable on a vice it cut cleanly!

Can someone who's got a set of the magical cutters pick them out on the screwfix site so the rest of us get the right ones?
