    Afternoon All,

I have a Brand X dropper that suffering with a sticky release pin – Specifically the pin that the cable rocker pushes on to actuate a drop and release.

On a couple of occasions the (bar mount) lever just won’t exert enough force to move the post initiation a fafftastic removal from the frame and the pin pressed in with a screwdriver to get it working again.

Do I resign myself to it just being a bit of a dud or is there something that can be done to help the issue?

I’d have put a drop of oil on it and exercised a few times while it was out. Probably with the pin depressed as far as possible because IIRC they’re a bit tapered at the tip so you’d get a bit drawn into the bore that way.

A generous blob of the thickest grease you have got (I use stern tube grease) on and around the pin might help lower the frequency of it seizing up. That’s what I do with the two Brand X posts I’ve got.

Even then if you ride in wet conditions a lot, water will eventually wash away the grease, so it won’t be a permanent solution!

Why grease Mr Copperpot? I’d want something that will get drawn in by the capillary action in that application. Interested in your reasoning.

    Did you read this part

might help lower the frequency of it seizing up

It’s very old way of slowing down/preventing water affecting parts where no other protection is available. Depending on the application replenishing the grease may be a regular or almost a non-event.

Almost a non event with the 2 Brand X posts I own. It has pretty much stopped the corrosion down there.

I have to drop a small amount of oil on the lever cable every few months, on my Brand X

Another one who smears the mechanism with grease and lubes the cable here.
