…after a succession of fast cars over the last few years I decided to go a bit crazy and get something a little slower in the name of a Volvo C30 T5 Auto stage 1 remap stainless exhaust, tweaks here and there which equates to over 300bhp.
    Bright red A1 condition.
…it’s completely insane is all I can say !

Yes its the same as a Focus, don’t like them.
Yes I’ve told my insurance of mods.

    Its bonkers

Love the C30 T5. It’s a classier version of the Focus ST/RS IMO. We’ve had a C30 for 6 years only a 1.6d R Design but its a handsome thing, cheap to run too which is all the missus cares about!

My midlife crisis daily does 20mpg, and needs premium petrol, and that didn’t seem too bad before Shell shut all the LPG stations 🙁

Don’t listen to the nay sayers! if it floats your boat then that is all that matters. MPG is only an issue if you do lots of mileage…MPG is only half the equation when it comes to economy. Without a corresponding annual milage its a meaningless number. I’m lucky if I get more than 20mpg out of my ‘midlife crisis’ car, but on the basis I only do about 5k miles a year in it has a small CO2 footprint and is cheap to fuel. If I were a traveling salesman clocking up 30k miles a year maybe a different story…but I’m not.

Of course it is capable of achieving more than 20mpg but on the basis it is a fun car and only ever get taken out on fun drives and never for local chores or work commutes, then I’m not exactly driving it in an economical way. But it doesn’t do silly pops and bangs out of the exhaust!!

    Obviously !

Not bothered about MPG at this point we have the family wagon for dogs/children/bikes etc
Having owned a few 4.2 V8s it can’t be any worse and will only get used occasionally.

    Pocket?

I thought midlife crisis cars had to be impractical two seater cabrios…

    Enjoy!

He mentions that he bought and sold a GR in every car thread. Apparently you have to buy a crapper car to have more fun or something.

Nice one OP. Just needs some blue lights in the grill for full undercover interceptor effect.

    full undercover interceptor effect

I used to have a white 850, at a time when the police used them, and i wore a white shirt and epaulettes at work.
That car was very quick through motorway traffic, as soon as i got near the back of any other car they would move over.
Would need a vrs for the same effect these days I’d have thought.
Mate has a c30, he likes it. Not a big car.

    Nice OP

The thing I like about quick Volvos is they tend to be pretty discrete and despite Volvo having made a good few quick cars over the years no on really expects them to be fast. This can be amusing when some bell-end in 320d is sitting right up your arse on the motorway

I’d really like a Polestar S60 as the ultimate Q car

When I’ve sorted out a house move, I’m thinking of one of these for my next toy – always thought they were silly money, but this beauty is only £13k

I had an 3.0i Omega MV6, xenon lights too – one flash from a distance and everything moved 🙂

I got love for the c30 T5. Highly under rated. The real question is though… Does it pop and bang? 😏

Based on my n=1 survey of close passes, I think in a few years Volvo drivers will have surpassed Audi (who took the throne in turn from BMW)…

I’d delete those images and repost them with the plates erased if I was you. Unless you like a knock on the door from plod about failure to pay @ the petrol station.

You’ve forgotten to mention the seats! I was looking at one of these 10 years ago and they are lovely cars wit a beautiful interior and very comfortable seats. Eventually I went for an Eos as I wanted roof down action. In fact I preferred the large sun roof.

Son1 put by pocket rocket RS Twingo 133 into the central barriers on the M25 when he aquaplaned. Replaced with a ridiculous Mk1 Cooper S with SS exhaust and bigger supercharger pulleys. I liked the Twingo more. That Caterham is my next car…

I’ve ALWAYS had a soft spot for fast Volvos, well done OP – you’ll have loads of fun in that.

My midlife crisis car was a bit late really (got it aged 50 and 3/4) but it just makes me smile every time I get in it. MX5 mk 3 2.0 Sport – not nearly as quick as the Volvo but properly good fun. And that’s said as a bloke previously hasn’t loved convertibles! 🙂

No scrote is going to pay £30 for some plates made to a number they found on a car in a photo online that may or may not be taxed/insured/MOTd by the time they come across it. Only to get £60 of petrol. They’d just nick some from a car park on the way there.

Ooh, 43 here – can I join in the MLC car thread?

Just picked this up to ‘complement’ ye old faithful Volvo. 6sp manual.

I’l try and be restrained and balanced in my short review:

    I F****** love it!!

It just did 41.5mpg, indicted, on a trip from Leeds to Symond’s Yat last week and yet it’ll still lift up its skirt and thrill the tits off you above 3,500 rpm.

Which obviously I didn’t do and would not endorse. Loutish behaviour.

    Wonderful car. Absolutely wonderful

Mrs K had better decide on her battery powered SUV before BMW release the M3 touring is all I can say:

Although the better looking (IMO) 2015 RS4 is now in reach, at least for initial purchase:

Love those, I think they’ve aged really well and that looks like a very clean example.

I like it, my mum used to have a C30 and I thought it was a very well put together car and I still think it looks great. I bet with a proper engine (not a 1.6 diesel…) it must be serious fun.

😄 she wasn’t too old at the time…

Although the better looking (IMO) 2015 RS4 is now in reach, at least for initial purchase:

Do it, just for that V8. A modern 6cyl twin turbo beemer will beat it hands down, but it just puts a smile on your face every time you go from 4000 to 8500 rpm. It’ll easily match older (E90/92) M3’s and beat them if it’s damp

And any fast Audi is infinitely better looking than any fast BMW

Thank you. I agree on the looks. It is remarkably clean, FSH, every document/receipt ever and is loaded with options. I was very fortunate for the price I paid it.

    However..

..I’ve just had a call though from my trusted mechanic to say it needs a full cooling system refresh and there’s an oil leak (probably rocker gasket at a guess) 🤠

Common problems though that I’d half budgeted for, and there’s not much else to go wrong with these so glad it’s getting done now.

    Still though. Ouchy!

I’ll have you know that 1.6d maps safely up to 146bhp!
And you only need to change the oil every 3000 miles after replacing the oil feed pipe and cleaning the sump.
Then all you need to do is pray the dpf doesn’t block and the DMF and clutch slave doesn’t go as it’s buried in the gearbox.
