Probably not far from the truth in London, which goes a long way to explain why we are where we are.

You can f*** right off. Most of us here aren’t on anything anywhere near that.

Median income in Inner London is £34,473. In Outer London, it’s £24241. So if by “not far from” you mean “230% of the correct figure” then OK, sure.

I didn’t watch the ‘debate’ but my twitter bubble seems to be unanimously appalled that one of these will be PM.
Have there been any other takes? I feel I need to get a balanced view.

FFS, you haven’t got a clue, have you @dazh… not a **** clue. Most people in London are struggling to pay the rent and the bills. There are normal people down there you know.

    This.

And lets not forget – there are plenty of graphs and stats for you to google – London is one off the most expensive places to live and not everybody chose to move into it, so their situation is not of there own making and saving for a deposit and moving out isn’t as easy as people like you might assume.

Looks like Aunty scored another politically partisan own goal last night.

Of the c7 questions put to the contenders for the next Prime Minster one came from a Corbyn supporting Labour Party activist (which they knew and didn’t reference) and one came from a Corbyn supporting Imam asking about whether “words have consequences”.

The latter is finding out the answer for himself having now been suspended from his Deputy Headteacher role now that anti-Semitic holocaust denying tweets have been uncovered – along with his entirely predictable views on women and rape.

Everyone’s up for equality until they are talking about the people they hate the most.

However, there’s no need to let that cynicism prejudice you though Rob, you don’t have to be a left wing hippy to stay self aware.

I was dubious about this claim but it seems to be true:

Are you suggesting that only Conservative supporters should be allowed to ask questions? Given that we are talking about the next prime minister (rather than just a party leader) I would have thought that questions from as wide a range of viewpoints as possible was a good idea, the Imam’s views not with standing. The question about “words having consequences” does seem appropriate however given Boris’ response when Foreign Secretary to the jailing of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe

Well, not only Tories, just that it should be mostly right wingers, like Question Time.

But you can’t stop people playing the man instead of the ball- regardless of who asked the question, it’s a valid one

Yup, the identity of the questioner is irrelevant so get a professional interviewer to ask it or make the questions anonymous rather than going through a pantomime of having random people you have to vet doing it and risk their background distracting the media from the question and the answers to the question.

I understand the questions were vetted and supplied to the candidates beforehand anyway so they could prepare their answers, so it does seem a rather weak pretence to make it look like random questions from the audience.

So – the Rt Hon Boris Johnson – who said we would leave the EU on Oct 31st, is already backtracking on that statement…

    & then there is this…

It’s like everytime he opens his mouth more shit just leaves it.

    Pfft.

    It’s Boris isn’t it?

I’ll take some comfort from the fact May was supposed to ride into office atop one of the four horses of the apocalypse and she turned out to just be a bit shit.

Boris will only be worse and the Lib Dems will have their new leader soon.

Ah well, looks like Rory should have kept his tie on.

I should have got my bet in for him to go in this round. 🤣

I wonder if the last two candidates will be leavers or a mixture or remainers.
If they go for the former they will be seen as hash, if they go for the mixture they get good publicity but if they go for remainers then they are doom. My view is that they will have a leaver and a remainer for their party members to choose. But if they choose to have a remainers PM again … Conservative party will be doomed. History! 😃

Yup, just seen a Tory MP on Channel4news complaining that none of the candidates are really pro-Brexit… despite including two of the key figures in the Leave campaign. The goalposts keep shifting. It’s all about moving the party, and country, as far right as possible… nothing to do with our future agreements with the EU or anyone else.

    @cougar
    … it is a consolation actually. 🤡

I always though Johson was as pro-brexit as they come. I suppose the closer you get to being the person that has to actually make that decision, the more of a bad idea it begins to seem!

Perhaps he’s having second thoughts about his “technological solution” to the Northern Ireland border.

    From the Observer’s Nick Cohen

    Nick Cohen
    @NickCohen4
Talked to a Tory MP last night who was backing Johnson
“Do you think he’d be any good as PM”
    “No”
“What on earth will he do about Brexit”?
    “No one knows”
“Why do you want him, then?”
“He’s the best hope we’ve got”
“By ‘we” you don’t mean Britain do you?”
    “No the party, of course”

Boris only cares about himself. I tend to believe the argument that he went full brexit in the expectation it would be lost but he would look good to the nutters and so be in line to be leader.
With that in mind who knows which way he will decide to jump.

In a weird way, it could be good if he becomes PM.

He will finally have to sit down at the table in front of a huge shit sandwich, and with everyone watching, actually do something.

All the issues with Brexit haven’t gone away (the EU, parliament, the Tory & brexit parties and the people in the country). The nefarious cloud of bollocks he spouts is about to hit the iceberg of reality. And the scrutiny on him will be ratcheted up by a factor of 17 gazillion. Scrutiny is not good for this guy.

And once this “Superman of Brexit” fails, he will be consigned to the food waste bin of history. And if HE can’t make it work then the whole endeavor becomes more questionable.

We can only hope he does not last long with the halloween deadline and doesn’t do too much damage to the country.

They don’t care about damage to the country, it’s the party that counts and only the party.

That is when Farage steps in as he will be brilliant at sorting this out with his excellent track record of doing stuff (especially in the EU)

I always though Johson was as pro-brexit as they come.

I remember him almost flipping a coin before the referendum to decide whether he was leave or remain. His decision to back leave was based on what would be best for him (as always) so wouldn’t see him as a staunch brexiteer

one came from a Corbyn supporting Imam asking about whether “words have consequences”.

Well, his words had consequences as he was suspended by his mosque. Compare and contrast with the reaction of the Conservative Party, which did nothing to punish the racist words from Johnson.
