I mean literally the only thing they can imagine as a goal for their party.

Strange isn’t it that Swinson says she thinks she can be PM, yet her actions say that she thinks the best she can hope for is a few more MPs and the possiblity of Johnson or Corbyn begging her for help. Of course there is always the possiblity that Swinson is as deluded in…[Read more]

People have been pulling up his tweets.

Indeed. Being heckled by an overt racist  and homophobe is no bad thing.

Libdems are shooting themselves in the foot with this Canterbury thing. I get the whole thing about them needing to be anti-labour to pick up tory seats, but this betrays their true intentions. They’re more interested in beating labout than they are the tories.

I think I’m becoming somewhat besotted with Angela Rayner. I’m now convinced she’ll be the first female labour PM, either taking over from Corbyn if he wins or at the next election if he loses. It’ll be quite a story too, an ex-nurse, teenage single mum who left school at 16 to PM.

“But the star turn was Rayner, who talked about the importance of…[Read more]

Then whatever centrist has replaced JC

Never going to happen. Angela Rayner all the way. The most centrist you’ll get is Thornberry but she’s way too posh.

Do you think the Greens standing down in our seat will result in more votes for Labour?

I do. But Calderdale is a special case, where the tory majority was less than the number of green votes last time. Even with that I don’t think it will work, because there will be enough die-hard remainers voting for the libdems to extend Whittaker’s majority…[Read more]

There’s an awful lot of pointless whataboutery going on here. The point about tactical voting is that it should be voter led. All this ‘A should stand down for B’ or vice versa is massively counter-productive and is also massively patronising. The voters know when they are being taken for fools, and I’m confident they’ll response accordingly. Many…[Read more]

If only labour had spent the past 3 years making the case to the labour heartlands brexiters that this is a right wing con job that will destroy them not free them.

Have they not been doing that? Every time I hear labour talk about brexit all I hear is stuff about Trump and his mates buying the NHS, destruction of workers rights and environmental…[Read more]

    Yup, we’re screwed.

Why the surprise? There was no way Farage was ever going to go against what Trump wants him to do. Those labour leave voters just became the focus of this election. Labour might well come to regret adopting a more remainey policy with a second referendum.

    worldwide conspiracy theory?

It’s called free-market capitalism. In particular the globalised flavour of it. There are many books about it. I’m sure you’ve read some.

If you could simply borrow and spend your way to a successful economy, every nation in the world would be rich

And it’s an extremely valid question to ask why not? The answer is to be found in the fact that in times of austerity the people who benefit the most are the very rich. The very rich tend to be in power in most countries in the world,…[Read more]

  • Planning on it. Going to be tight though as I have a work meeting a half five and it might overrun 🙁

Might ride the gravel bike into work and ride that. Will there be anywhere to hide it/lock it up at the pub?

  • dazh replied to the topic 2019 General Election in the forum Chat Forum 3 days ago

There is only one party opposed to Brexit

That’s not quite true, but if you’re talking about the lib dems, the only salient fact is that they will never be able to stop brexit, as there is no chance of them winning a majority. If stopping brexit is your only priority, then the only way that will happen is with a labour govt providing a new…[Read more]

Labour are far too arrogant for thier own good, just look at posts from Dazh and Tj for that.

    ?

I’ll repeat my question above. Do you think labour should campaign to lose? Because by planning for a hung parliament and making deals in advance of one does exactly that.

  • dazh replied to the topic 2019 General Election in the forum Chat Forum 4 days ago

Labour are refighting the 2017 election, and hoping not to lose seats, while talking up, and only talking about, a majority Labour government that is just not going to happen.

You want them to campaign to lose? The simple fact is that labour are the only party who can unseat the tories. The only way they can do that is with a positive campaign.…[Read more]

If those polls above then all but a tiny few of us are f*****! And we’ll deserve it. Lets hope they’re wrong. Although I watched the labour rally in Manchester last night and came to the strong conclusion that Angela Rayner will be the next labour leader.  That might be the only silver lining.

It’s not any other parties (including the one we both support) aren’t shy of telling the odd porky themselves…

Not claiming labour are squeaky clean, they can and do play dirty to when required. There’s a big difference though between fabricating and misrepresenting poll data and overly optimistic economic forecasts.

  • dazh replied to the topic 2019 General Election in the forum Chat Forum 5 days ago

    this is how elections work…

By pubishing misleading data and outright lies in an effort to con the electorate? You’re right yes, skullduggery has always been a feature of election campaigns, and it’s certainly nothing new for the lib dems. But seen in the context of Matty’s comment that every party should be doing their best to keep the tories o…[Read more]

  • dazh replied to the topic 2019 General Election in the forum Chat Forum 5 days ago

Every party should be focused on keeping the tories out.

Labour are 100% focused on beating the tories in the hundreds of seats where they are the clear challenger. The lib dems so far have spent all their time pretending that they are the challengers despite being 10s of thousands of votes behind labour. If you’re looking for parties who aren’t…[Read more]
