Biking in Cornwall tips

Off to Cornwall next week for a break and will be taking the bikes.
Already made a note of Cardinham Woods for a bit of a play if we’re over that way, but does anyone have any suggestions for a route nearer to St Agnes (where we’ll be based).

Some good coastal singletrack around Aggie, give ‘Supergoose’ a bash – https://www.strava.com/activities/326903910

Loads of bridleway bashing & cheeky coastal path available down the bottom end between lalent & land’s End. Also the sustrans route runs along the front past St michael’s mount for something a bit more tame.

falmouth 4x track
poldice valley is supposed to be good but never been.
grogley nr bodmin is good too.

my brother rides Poldice and grogley a bit; some crazy lines/jumps in some of it! Some vids on YouTube.

The old mining trails are fun on a CX bike, Portreath to Devron and back, plus lots of bridleways along the way to explore. Incudes cafe stop if required, plus great views. Lots of bridleways as mentioned which are great to explore.

Take a road bike?

Cardinham Woods is a bit crap imho and the costal paths are OK for a pootle, but they’ll be littered with walkers.

I only take the roadie down there. Go smash a nice ride to lands end via the coast.

Its about the only time I find road biking e enjoyable.

Dunno if I’d fancy taking the roadie down there, it’s a bit like south west Scotland, the roads would be amazing, if there were some others for the cars and trucks to go on.

I thought cardinham was good fun, you could easily have fun for a couple of laps and still have time to go and session the better bits of lanhyrock afterwards.

Was based near Helston a couple of weeks ago. Did the MBR lizard lap and that was pretty cool in an epic scenery kind of way. Pack sandwiches in the bag and just enjoy the views.

Also rode Cardinham woods and was fun. Swoopy modern trail centre fun.

Didn’t ride the coast to Coast in the end but did get few kms in round east dartmoor on the way home and that was properly brilliant!

What kind of riding are you looking for?

There’s a nice loop you can do from Chacewater, near Truro, taking in Unity Woods (definitely worth exploring off the path), St Day, Carn Marth, Carn Brea, and back via Carharrack and Poldice. Has a bit of everything, from broad, easy, ‘take the kids for a pootle’ tracks, to some decent gaps and drops at Poldice.

Next week? If you’re here this Sunday morning a few of us are riding a short Porthtowan- Chapel Porth- St Agnes Beacon loop. It’s some coast path but we ride it regularly and have no problems so long as we give way to walkers.

I find Cardinham good fun, it’s not long but a quick couple of laps at pace are well worthwhile. Drop by Lanhydrock for an hour or so too and session the blues (Timber trail and Hart trail).

Also as above. Poldice Valley (although you’ll need somebody to show you around to get the best out of it, check out the Cornwall Freeriders facebook page if you want some gnarr). The Track for dirt jumping. Grogley is steep and rooty. Quite a bit of XC bumbling around too involving bits of coast path around Helston, Penwith, and some good riding around Minions on Bodmin moor if you have an explore.

The road riding’s good too, plenty of hills and views. A favourite of mine is the North Coast down from St Agnes past Portreath, Godrevy, St Ives, Zennor and down to Land’s End.
