Bike friendly hotel / hostel in Brecon.

I’ve been thinking of doing the Taff Trail from Brecon to Cardiff for a few years, then Covid got in the way, but I’ve firmly decided that it’s happening this year.

I know it’s not big miles by any stretch but it will be big enough for me. Plan is to ride Hereford to Brecon day one, about 38 miles, with a stop in Hay-On-Wye midway, overnight in Brecon, then the Taff Trail on day two, about 55 miles, ending in Cardiff. The wife will collect me in Cardiff.

I’m needing a hotel or hostel in Brecon, or very near, for the over night. I don’t fancy camping, partly because of the extra kit to carry and partly because I want some comfort. I found two hostels, one at Talybont, which cuts into the Taff Trail leg, and the other at Libanus, about 45 minutes the other side of Brecon.

Anyone with any recommendations?

Try tynewyddholidays.com which has a super B&B in Llanfrynach which is just outside Brecon – the Taff Trail is on your doorstep. We stayed there a few years ago and have been back every year since as it’s a cracking spot and the family who run the place are lovely.

The pubs in Talybont have bunkhouses and the YHA at Libanus is on the wrong side of the valley and means riding up the A470 rather than the old Coach Road.

B&B rather than bunkhouses;

Herdmans B&B at Ffrwdgrech is popular with our airlift crews and will do you a lunch to take with you.

Store house at Pencelli is relaxed and does good breakfast.

Or Bridge Cafe if you want to be in Brecon.
Get dinner from over the bridge at Cat Soup Kitchen.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Most are a bit restricted either due to availability or the requirement to book a minimum of two nights.

Local knowledge about which side of the valley and connecting routes is most helpful.
