Don’t post much on here, but since there seem to be experts on everything:

Anyone got any advice on the best place to put a fairly small amount of savings (£2-3K) for a few years?
My first thought would be an ISA of some sort, but just thought I’d see if anyone has any better ideas first?

    Cheers!

Depends how much risk you want.

    Buy gold.

How much of this £3k is ‘disposable’ i.e. is it your only savings, or could you afford to lose it all?
How likely to need access to it before “a few years”?
Within a month if needs be, in a year, 3 years?

How much risk (as per samuri) are you willing to bear versus gain?
If I said I could double your money in 3 years that’d be good, but you might lose 50% instead – would that be OK?

I’d go for a cautious, mixed asset / cash ISA probably.
    That or crowd funding lending.

TBH I’m not sure I’d plump everything in gold either, it’ll be there but in 2/3 years time price could have fluctuated down / up all about..

Go and have a look at interest rates for savings accounts on some of the comparison sites.
ISAs mean you avoid paying tax on the interest but right now the APR on some of the current accounts is much higher – but there are conditions around the amount of money going in every month and setting up direct debits so you’d have to use it as your main account and be disciplined about not spending the 3k.
