Best 700cc Offroad tyres?

I’ve entered cross country race in August which would be a pig to do on my normal full sus bike so considering using my commuting bike (a cube curve) and sticking some more appropriate tyres on. Don’t think the frame or forks have the clearance to get 29″ tyres in so what are the best options for tyres in the 700cc size? Have to admit I don’t know anything about them really

Racing Ralphs? They do a little 700c one

I have them on my Kona Sutra and they are really good. Mind you, I have not tried anything else so take that with a pinch of salt…

What’s the race and what’s your normal FS bike? Unless it’s a Giant Glory there aren’t many races I’d choose a hybrid for instead!

Given the pressure you need and the width, none are great IME.

I have a Scott Ransom which is a fairly heavy bike for the course considering there looks a fair amount of road sections, its the race at Blenheim Palace

I see, the ‘off road sportive’ thing? It’s only 25 miles, so I’d happily take the Ransom, or I can’t see it mattering in the least what tyres you fit – from the description I imagine it will be on rather tame bridleways, rather than anything hugely taxing.

Some Ralphs or Rons would be more than adequate I’d wager.

I keep being astonished by my vittoria xg pros… Not to say they’re massively grippy, they’re more or less on a par with rubbish mtb tyres. But that’s quite good going considering.

Schwalbe Smart Sams are a bit skinnier and are cheap with reasonable performance and available in a variety of sizes

I’d go for race tyres on the FS. Makes a huge difference IMHO….
