I've bought bearings for my BB from AK Bearings in Edinburgh. Happy enough to recommend them.

Katec on ebay

Mark - where do you find bearing spec/size. I looked on simply when looking for my last lot but couldn't work it out.

www.bearing-king.co.uk are another good site. Katec on ebay has always been very good too, easier to find out what you need generally too (just search for the frame/hub/whatever you need the bearings for)

What size are you after?

As for Katec would not touch him with a 20ft pole.

The fact that he's a bit mental isn't news (which is what most of those posts are about) but I've used his kit many times, have many friends who have done the same, and know that many members of this forum have used his stuff without issue.

Whether katec is a madcap or not. I can't vouch either way. But I'll tell you that he was spot on when I've bought from him and his email responses when I asked for advice on another biking issue were quick and very helpful.

His kits remove the faff of measuring bearing-sizes and are really good value. Only reason I can see for not using him is if you didn't like him from his posts on here.

Having heard his rep here, I emailed him the make/model of my road wheels. The correct bearings arrived 24hrs layer with a free set of experimental bearings he's trying to match I can't promise you'll get the latter, by I'm going back to him no issue, top chap.

Although the fortune cookie type sentence on the reciept was , er far out, I found it a humerous extra.

I got some really good bearings from Kaesae / Katec, re-packed with 'special grease' etc but they do last well. Lasting a lot better than the stock Hope hub bearings so far (2 sets in 2 SS hubs). Delivered next day too, will buy again etc.

His mythical ponderings are missing from his new receipts 🙁

Another vote for Katec here, supplied a full frame bearing kit for my Anthem, great service indeed.

Ended up buying the enduro Max bearings from BETD. Katec look pretty good as well, will try in the future. As long as the products good it doesn't matter if he is a bit different/wacky. Its better to be different. Cheers for the help!

+1 for Katec although right now he is looking at the sky blaming plane trails on German pollutant spraying in an attempt to change the weather or something, whilst ranting about various Edinburgh post offices and their staff
I miss his off the wall musings now he's no longer here

His bearings and service are top quality though

And another for Katec.

Kael is a great guy and really tries hard to do stuff right. He isn't just recycling shop stuff, he has a small and well equipped workshop and just wants to give good kits at a fair price to keep folk rolling.

The best description was by a forum member and went something like:
"Aye, he's a nutter but he's our nutter".
Spot on I say, he works hard to develop the stuff he sells and has always gone out of his way to sort us out.

+1 Katec no issues with him, very helpful with the pivot bearing puller I bought from him, everything works as it should!

Katec/kaesae +1 more.

Used him several times for wheel and frame bearings. Each time had good service and been supplied with quality bearings.

On one occasion I enquired about bearings for my sons scooters and he sent me some for free with a wheel bearing order.

Top lad who is genuinely interested in what he's selling and has good advice to offer on the subject if asked.

The bearing number should be on the seal. Failing that just measure the old bearing or check the tech manual for the hub etc as that normally has the bearing details. On the simply site just enter the bearing number or size in the search boxes in the top left hand side of the web site.

Yes wasn't there a u tube clip on removing pivots in a record time, spinning spanners and allen keys like they were colt 45s....was a hoot.

Seems like a decent guy tho from what others are saying, so will try him when I need to replace any bearings.

Katec as well for me when he's got what I want, SKF or FAG or KOSO otherwise. I'll not bother repeating my comments from that SDH thread 😉

Oh but... "got a shitty attitude when it was pointed out that an industrial bearing manufacturer knows a shitload more than he does about how much grease is appropriate" in the 2nd thread, talk about missing the point. The half-fill is usually specced for speed and lifespan in a clean environment, so yes if you fill 'em up it's a Bad Thing normally. But pushiron bearings don't tend to fail because they've had a long and fruitful life, they fail because they're full of crap. More grease = less crap. We spin them very slow, for not huge durations, through swamps so the downside of the overpack is reduced and the benefit is increased.

Just for giggles, one time when I replaced bearings in a pro 2, I packed extra waterproof grease into one side, and left the other standard- both identical SKF. Was not surprised when the standard one went crunchy first.

Katec, don't bother looking elsewhere, mainly because he's a fellow mtber and his bearings for my Mavic sx's have sofar lasted twice as long as the originals.
