Fitting an sram x1 bb30 crankset to my bike, it looks like it’s wider than the shell and could do with a shim or two. However, the instructions call for no shims, and that you just tighten the plastic preload adjuster on the non-drive side. Anyone know what I mean? It’s the grey notched thing against the left of the bb shell below:

This does pull the crank across and it appears tight, but the adjuster doesn’t appear to be threaded so how does it work and will it stay in position?

That looks too big a gap there. The adjuster will only take a mm or 2 in slack. Its only designed to stop the sideways sliding of the cranks and should only be don’t up to do this. Something looks missing to me.

Thks thrustyjust – I was thinking it looks a bit odd. On the previous crank the adjuster only moved a little bit. I’ll try a couple of shims on it.

The adjuster on mine sits near the crank. I am sure there is a plastic spacer between the adjuster and the bearing face on that side and on the chainset side another spacer.
