AXS Rear mech – battery guards

Does anyone know if all AXS batteries have plastic guards over them?  My previous bike had a cage type thing which clipped over the battery.  New bike just has the battery clipped in but no protection at all.

Is this correct or do I have to ask the shop for a cover?

New AXS doesn’t have a guard, old style AXS does have a guard.

Old AXS GX has it, old AXS XX1 and X01 doesn’t (or didn’t, because weight figures). Never had an issue without one.

the Guards are fairly flimsy Though, I wouldn’t rely on them for any sort of protection, save for a scratch…

Was only introduced when GX came in. Original XX and XO never had it. Is your new bike posher than the old one?
Been running various grades of mechs on different bikes for 5 years and have never use one and have yet to hit a battery.

OK, thanks I’ll stop worrying about it!  Yes new bike is posher and the replacement cost for mech alone is about the same as I paid for my first ‘proper’ bike – a Scott Comp Racing in the late 90s!

I wouldn’t consider it a ‘guard’, more a decoration…they needed to differentiate GX from the XX and XO mechs and that was easy to do with the cover.

If we are talking about the origional axs rather than t-type, then there is a battery guard. But it’s a complete waste of time and will more than likely fall off after a few rides. It’s a overpriced piece of plastic from sram copies are available for much less.

GX AXS was my first foray into AXS..it came with a battery guard which I lost at Rogate. Rode for yonks without it, and then randomly found a cover on a trail somewhere else in the world..
It felt like the universe reaching out to me, so stuck THAT one on the mech.

were it not for this almighty sign, I wouldn’t have bothered replacing it!

Got 2 other mechs, neither have a guard. All is good!

GX AXS was my first foray into AXS.

What did you go for afterwards @DrP ? Figured I’d go for GX AXS on my next bike. If you went fancier have you found them better?

I had GX AXS (‘old style’) on the stumpjumer as didn’t want/need XX1 on that bike..

Then when I got the epic evo, which is UDH, I got T-Type GX AXS. T-type IS better – less movement, and shifting under power is better too (magical even!).
I’ve got rival XPLR on my gravel bike (not UDH) and very happy with that, like i am the ‘old’ GX, however given the option, and if the price is OK, I’d go t-type if you can.

For old, not t type, style there is no functional difference between GX and XX1, only about a chocolate bars difference in weight.

Even with my disposition for shiny things. I only buy GX AXS now.

I’d expected GX would be AOK. While my new bike will be UDH it  ‘…is not compatible with SRAM Transmission’. I think I’ve seen a couple with T-type mechs but if it says ‘not compatible’ then I imagine there’s a reason.

as long as you have a UDH frame I can’t see any reason t-type wouldn’t work.

not all UDH frames are T Type compatible. Most are, but a few aren’t.

Can I run SRAM Transmission on the A.150?
Unfortunately, the A.150 is not compatible with SRAM Transmission.
