Wales to be given a thorough kicking by all is my prediction.
Sony Bill and Nonu to smash England to bits I hope.
Ireland have the best chance of a win today.

I might be divorced by the end of the day! Missus is a Kiwi. Oh well, I can live with being beaten by the Kiwi’s, just as long as Wales get soundly thrashed 8)

I’ve got a feeling Wales will be a surprise today and hold their own.

England will as usual get thrashed and pick up a few injuries that will scupper their chances in the 6 nations – just giving them excuses ready for when they get the wooden spoon in the Spring 😉

Really come on it a chance for us “Brits” to try our 4 teams against the Southern Hemisphere teams who always put on a spectical so personally I am going to watch as much as possible and appreciate rugby in a great forum – old and new players going all out to beat weighty opposition.

Realistically I think the OP will be right a resounding defeat all around – but there’s always a chance.

I have a feeling that (and will be hoping for) wales to get obliterated. The aussies are coming off a win over the all blacks, I don’t see the taffs standing a chance.
I’m almost as keen on australia winning as england!
Very excited about seeing SBW and ma’a nonu play though!

The ‘Brits’ thing doesn’t really work in rugby though, does it?

The only time I’ll cheer for an Englishman is when he’s wearing a Lions shirt.

The rest of the time I support Wales first, whoever’s playing England second. 🙂

What backhander said (well apart from the going riding bit)

A lot of anti English on here so just sticking one back.

We’re not as narrow-minded ( 😉 )as the Welsh of course i’d like to see you beat the Aussies

Hope Wales win but I doubt it. Bucking the trend on here, good luck to both England and Ireland. Particularly looking forward to seeing how good the England scrum half everyone is raving about. Wales I fear will miss Hook at centre and Jamie Roberts’ general physical presence. Not sure why, but have a feeling Ireland could lose heavily, but will be conservative with my prediction for that game:

    Wales 15 Australia 32
    England 22 New Zealand 37
    Ireland 12 South Africa 27

Ahem, while I have no problem with being in the Home Nations, the green machine are not part of “us Brits”. Puh-leeeaaasssee 🙂

Hard to believe we’re going for our fourth straight win against the Boks today. It’s unlikely we’ll make it four, but I agree with the OP that it’s the best chance for a Home Nations win. Boks are ravaged by injuries and are battered after the Currie Cup. We’ll miss O’Connell but I guess it’s time we learned to live without him. Seems to be injured an awful lot. I have a sneaking suspicion that Wales will do better than expected today.

wales without Roberts or Powell do not have aball carrier cpaable of getting over the gainline apart from Bradley Davis and being a lock it will be tough getting the ball in his hands often enough. Very green pair of flankers and a shit 8 will not cut the mustard against the aussie’s

Looking at the teams I wouldnt pick a single Englishman ahead of the NZ opposition. Whereas you could make the case for a couple of welshman to make the aussie team.

only the england games are on sky, rest or on bbc.

Sadly, I think that Australia will put at least 20 points on us. Shame to see James Hook at full back too.
Biggest gripe of all – why isn’t it on HD? I’ve got the beers, mahoosive TV, pals and relatives lined up, Mrs T making shedloads of Nigel Slater’s spicy indian chicken baguettes and it’s on BBC2! What’s on HD at that time? Octonauts and Muddle earth – yeah my 6 year old is going to revel in all its HD glory. Who’s the plonker who thought that was a good idea?

I was trying to get some unity of support for the home teams of course as a Welshman all I really care about is my home team.

    @backhander – Ger off my land!!!!! 😆

Sorry maybe I should have made “Brits” us “Europeans” to make it factually correct sorry Darcey 😳

    Highlights of Eng/NZ on BBC3 at 1930 I think.

Still amazed at the press articles about how Eng might be able to beat NZ. Have they not seen the ABs games this year?

Sure, the players have to go out believing they can win but the journos don’t have to.

For me the Aussies have the best back line in rugby at the moment and will make great viewing too.

Gonna have to watch the Wales/Aus on telly and the Eng/NZ game on my laptop at the same time (coz I don’t have Sky).

Disagree – Scrum Half, Front Row and Locks you could make a case for some of the English players.

The rest I agree although Ben Foden and Chris Ashton both look like they’ll make the grade.

    England: 15-Ben Foden, 14-Chris Ashton, 13-Mike Tindall 12-Shontayne Hape, 11-Mark Cueto, 10-Toby Flood, 9-Ben Youngs; 1-Andrew Sheridan, 2-Steve Thompson, 3-Dan Cole, 4-Courtney Lawes, 5-Tom Palmer, 6-Tom Croft 7-Lewis Moody (captain), 8-Nick Easter.

    New Zealand: 15-Mils Muliaina, 14-Joe Rokocoko, 13-Sonny Bill Williams, 12-Ma’a Nonu, 11-Hosea Gear, 10-Dan Carter, 9-Alby Mathewson; 1-Tony Woodcock, 2-Keven Mealamu, 3-Owen Franks, 4-Brad Thorn, 5-Sam Whitelock, 6-Jerome Kaino, 7-Richie McCaw (captain), 8-Kieran Read.

    front row?
    1-Tony Woodcock, 2-Keven Mealamu, 3-Owen Franks v 1-Andrew Sheridan, 2-Steve Thompson, 3-Dan Cole

maybe a case for Dan Cole but he’s pretty raw at international level

    locks
    4-Brad Thorn, 5-Sam Whitelock v 4-Courtney Lawes, 5-Tom Palmer

england have a raw lock who has done nothing and another who has never been good enough.

Foden could be good enough but you wouldnt pick his potential over Mils and his 100 odd caps for a one off game. Ashton isnt as good as either of their wingers. Tindall has the edge over SBW for experience but thats it. Oh and Youngs has done nothing at international level yet either.

Out of those , maybe swap Croft on Lions form.
Still think England will push New Zealand hard in the first 60 minutes or so…

welsh pack a bit of a revelation so far

    Hey anagallis_arvensis

Youngs is more experienced and better than Mathewson. Done nothing except a scorching try against Australia.

I agreed all the ABs outside backs are better and obviously they are a superior side with the ability to take ANY chances they get.

Watching the game today the front five matched the ABs and bettered them in the scrum. THerefore some of the English front five are surely worth a shout? Simply typing a list of names is not an argument.

Sheridan, Lawes and Easter all comprehensively outplayed their opposing numbers today. The scoreline flattered the ABs, wheras I am informed the scoreline flattered the welsh in the other game.
Encouraging almost un-english performance toady, loads of new faces and they were trying to spin the ball wide at every opportunity, the scrum was rampant. Still lacking at FH and centre IMO.

Backhander – do you really believe the scoreline flattered the ABs?

TheEngland try should never have been given – a man clearly offside.

    backhander
    Free Member

TJ, yes. I watched the game. Did you?
I agree on the try, how much time did the ABs spend in the england 22 in the second half? 2 seconds? What was the possesion? territory? I’m not saying that england deserved to win but it was a far closer game than the scoreline would suggest.

    namastebuzz
    Free Member

Yeah I think the ABs were worth a 10pt win.

Sure there was a man offside in the England try but if you tracked all 30 players all the time you’d probably find someone doing something wrong most of the time. Besides, I thought Gear’s try was debatable too so it was evened up. Mind you, Hartley’s try……ok I’ll stop there.

What is it with the NH teams and the touchline. Do they NOT REALISE if you go into touch you normally lose the ball? Time and again England and Wales got put into touch and I’ve just seen Ireland do the same. The SH teams always seem able to turn back infield and retain possession – why can’t we?

    namastebuzz

Sorry Backhander you don’t win games just by being in the opposition’s 22.

How many times did the ABs look like scoring a try? Just about every time they ran with the ball.
