Just wondering as I’ve a bottle sitting on the shelf in garage that came from bleeding some Magura rim brakes.

I believe that Baby Oil is Mineral Oil.

Would this be a more eco-friendly oil to use than a synthetic type??

    Cheers!

Ive not tried it, but I can’t see it staying on the chain very long.

I used it on some open faced roller bearings on a set of roller skates temporarily once because I had nothing else available. All I remember is how black and messy they got. Probably not much use as an answer but it’s all I’ve got.

I believe that if you use it as a lube, it breaks down latex!

I thought there may be a chance of some fnarr fnarr responses!!

    Thanks for replies.

I think the oil is actually Shell ‘Morlina 10’ or something which is still a mineral oil. This came from a large barrel in the CNC machine shop where I used to work. Will probably try it and see what happens…

We used to put it into horses who were constipated but not anymore as it is a poor intestinal lubricant and didn’t help. Sometimes my chain looks like h*rsesh1t so it may not help either.

As said above, baby oil breaks down latex, I’ve seen it with my own eyes. ;)

Good for cleaning up the mess in tubeless tyres then.

It will lube but doesn’t stay. And that’s on the bike.

There are many different types and grades of mineral oil, some quite volatile and easily absorbed into the skin. I doubt whether the lighter oils would last very long as a lubricant.

Try it and let us know as I’d be interested. I can get tons of light mineral oil.
