Anyone in the UK sell hope pro 2's on carbon rims (light bicycle etc)

is there anyone stocking them ready to go? obviously youll pay a bit more for this but if I go down that route id be quite happy having the peace of mind on a replacement rim etc if needed

must be on pro2’s though, if anyone has any ideas that would be great!

What carbon? any carbon? If you are going for that sort of build get them built on spec

Just Riding Along import Derby rims and will build them on Hope hubs or others. I think Freeborn do similar with Loaded carbon rims but they aren’t as fashionably wide unless they have been updated.

derby rims are pretty expensive, was looking at around circa 600quid if its possible?!

standard as in carbon, non weave – basically like the lb rims, don’t know the ins and outs of carbon, but just plain carbon matte effect with roughly 30-35mm diameter

Great – they’re not too badly priced as carbon rims go – and of course you get the backup you want, with them being from a recognised brand.

I’m probably going to be selling my 26″ LB rims on pro 2 evos in the next 2 months, but not until I get a replacement bike, which I haven’t even ordered yet, depending on your timescales anyway.

LB are available in 3k weave or UD, and matt and gloss – they’re not all non-weave.

Vapor rims are c£400 each, they’re not particularly wide, or light.

I don’t think anyone in the UK is doing what you’re after without a massive price hike. Strada are charging £400 a rim, as are most others. Shame really, you’d think there’d be a bigger market for folk to import 20 LB rims, build them onto Pro 2s and sell for a 50% mark up or sommat. At £1200 for a wheelset I’d sooner wait a couple of weeks!

Apologies – you didn’t say as much, so I assumed it was just a recommendation for your LBS! They should shout about that – having stock of rims would be a massive plus I’d say.

Yeah, wasn’t very clear, was walking between meetings typing on a phone so not much chance to elaborate! I’ve pointed him towards this thread so he may be able to provide more info about what he is doing, what he might stock etc.

Fraser at Happy cog is an absolute gent and very very helpful on all things bike 🙂

was kinda hoping someone might be doing the circa £100-150 quid more or so in England

as you say im surprised somebody hasn’t done a batch job of rims and flung them on pro2s and sold for a couple hundred quid profit, pretty sure theyd sell like hotcakes having uk backup, especially with hope being so easy to get spares for

The rims seem to change every week though.

And I bet by the time you crack the rear they’d have sold out and you’d need to wait for a new one to come from China anyway.

I’m not surprised, given that when people break their carbon rims they seem to want a free replacement from LB, I can’t see anyone taking that on board.

those flow ones look pretty spot on, hoping they do just plain carbon look, dont like the aesthetics of the weave on those in the picture, but price wise exactly what i was looking at!

OW, there are a pair of rims for sale on Pink Bike, can’t do a link from my phone, he wants £250 posted. I looked at them myself. Not able to do anything about em as I’ve been admitted to hospital 😕

mine, seems I can get near or under 1500g with the right bits

JRA have some industry 9 wheelsets that come in at 1500g for 650b, and they use stans alloy rims. If it’s just weight you are after, don’t discount a good set of alloys. they’re in Sheffield

JRA are fantastically knowledgeable, and I’m sure they build a great wheel. But they’re expensive, and the OP has been pretty clear on what he wants, and it’s not I9 hubs on Stan’s rims… Just sayin’, you can stop the sales pitch.

ive emailed the chap at flow and tbh he sounds spot on, the wheels sound good too and they are on my preferred hope hubs, its a bit of a no brainer really as they aren’t too much more than buying from china direct with some uk backup and stock

Please do. At about 2/3 the price of other options I’m interested. Just his lack of contact details make me wary.

I bought some new LB carbon rims from someone in the classifieds and wanted them fitting to my existing Hope hubs which were on my spare wheels. I wanted the builder to service the hubs, provide the spokes and build the wheels. I was prepared to pay over the odds to get them done,JRA who are local to me weren’t interested. 18 Bikes did them and were first class.

I’m fairly sure those Blue Flow ones are Nextie rims, they have the same warning stickers on them…

They also seem heavy – maybe they arn’t using fancy spokes & I know Hope hubs arn’t the lightest. Id want a wheelset design for that sort of purpose & that sort of price to be 1600g at the most.

Hi, it’s Stuart here from Blue Flow Bikes. Just to answer a few questions / clear up a couple of points.

We do not buy our rims from Nextie – we sell them in both UD carbon and kevlar carbon finish and I don’t think Nextie use kevlar?

The 35mm rims are from a near identical, if not the same open source mould as Light Bicycle rims, possibly Nextie too? Weights are very similar to equivalent LB rims – we have compared them thoroughly. In fact, ENVE 32mm wide carbon rims weigh approximately 20g per rim more than our 35mm wide rims (29er Vs 29er – similar for 27.5s). http://enve.com/products/wheels/m70-thirty-29-m7029c/
