ANY car? It’s got to be a Porsche. Macan obvs. Live the 80s dream in post-Brexit Britain.

some kind of hybrid box about the size of a skoda roomster thing that has 4wd and did 0-60 in 8 seconds and was limited to 85mph (which unlocked itself if you drove to a country with a higher speed limit) high passenger and pedestrian/cyclist safety and plenty of headroom so a 6 footer can sit upright (no curved rooflines) it also drove itself if needed.

it also needs to be unassuming enough not to spark conversation on cycling forums or dinner parties and to only cause a quizzical look and a change of topic from car-jocks and ‘Daves’ when they ask what you drive.

I wouldn’t worry, I get the impression people won’t talk to you at dinner parties anyway.

For those interested, you can look at the Barrett Jackson auction pages for upcoming and past auctions. Obviously Cuda’s and the like go for silly money but there’s some interesting stuff going super cheap (relatively speaking).

    Like this for $66k

They also had a GT3 RS 4.0 on there for $235k with 346 miles on it. Considering there’s one on PistonHeads for £500k that’s not a bad deal..

My problem is I want so many.  Something small and nippy for hiking trips up north, something that I can put the tandem in, something that we can sleep in comfortably etc etc

so I will continue what I do which is not own a car but hire the appropriate vehicle for the trip I am doing

I like Grum’s Merc camper nomination – I had a 1979 609D camper conversion for a few years. I loved that vehicle. Slow, loud, thirsty, fun, could turn on a sixpence.

These days I’d settle for Toyota Land Cruiser or Volvo XC90. With perhaps a cheeky little Dodge Charger for the weekends.
