Why do so many overwieght non-cyclists find it amusing that I havent taken a winter break from MTBing? Someone please tell me something amusing to retort with, ‘cos the only thing I can think of is “loose some weight you fat c***s” which I cant say without getting sacked!

I think the general belief is you must be truly mental to venture out when the air temperature is less than blood temperature. I am in London though so I guess everyone I work with are soft jessies

Explain it is the same reason they haven’t taken a winter break from eating pies

Wise words Jedi, but WorldClassAccident’s suggestion is better, albeit still too polite for the fat f***s I have to work with.

Just tell them you’ll be a toned super fit mtb’ing god come summer.

Or you could tell them you heard it increases your erm… “performance” it would be interesting to see how many decide to take it up then 😉

I agree with simon (must be a first). I ignore it. Or just point and laugh at their fat guts. Depends who it is really.

I get annoyed when I mention that I’m going out training and people ask me what I’m training for. Like you can only ever do one big event then stop and eat pies for a year… I’ve got races all year.

Most people think of cycling as a gentle recreational pursuit, which wouldn’t be done in the winter. They don’t get that someone could enjoy the hard physical effort that would be required to ride a long way. And it really gets my goat when people say ‘oh you must be mad’. Basically, f*ck off. I’m not mad I just like cycling so f*ck off and think of an interesting remark.

If I were a lovely bloke it would be people being nice and taking an interest. Since I’m a miserable git, it is annoying 🙂

Maybe you shouldn’t invite a response by mentioning that you’re going training then. ‘Training’ kind of implies that you’re working towards something, so “what are you training for?” is not an unreasonable response. Miserable git 🙂
