While I’m anti-fox hunting, I’d pay good money to watch a bunch of toffs on horseback, with beagles and bugles, charging through city centres after a fox

    Liam Fox? yes please!

I always though huntin’ shootin’ and fishin’ in a controlled sort of way was quite good for the environment.

Makes the toffs want to maintain the woods, fields and hedges rather than sell ’em all off for housing.

Farm after farm in Hampshire and Surrey have vote leave boards in their fields

Just shows that the loudest sound comes from an empty vessel. How many farmers have you talked to recently?

yes, but only with access for toffs; they don’t want peasants ruining their leisure activities with their naff accents, garish outdoor clothing and socialist tendencies….

I thought the proposal was to legalise peasant hunting, rather than bring back fox hunting?

The committee’s most reported conclusion was that…

Probably another good reason to read the actual thing

The reality is different: The hunts ignore all boundaries, riding rough-shot over other people’s land and then get aggressive when a land owner refuses them access.

Not only is it an incredibly inhumane blood sport, the treatment of the hounds is disgusting.

There are more humane ways of controlling the fox population than sending a bunch of braying inbreds out on horses with a pack of dogs to tear them apart. Some might argue that it’s the “way of life” in the countryside, I would argue that it’s a case of people wanting to be utter ****s and attempting to justify it by bleating on that their arcane traditions are somehow still morally acceptable.

How many hunt kennels have you, personally, actually been in?

How many of these methods have have you, personally, killed foxes with, in order to form your opinion?

Personally, I’ve used all of the current legal methods, and hunted both mounted and on foot before the ban, and flushing to guns as is still legal north of the border, so i have formed an opinion based on that – how about you?

fox hunting must be different elsewhere, but where we live the hunt is just something that occurs along with everything else – a cross-section of society getting together to ride across the countryside.

its legal, creates employment and folk enjoy it – and most of the landowners either ride or are happy for the hunt to come through, as they are with walkers, cyclists and other horse riders.

but then we live in Scotland and we try to be a bit more ‘open’.

Back on topic – I’m with Pigface in that I have her as my new boss too.

As for our new PM, I’m not sure whether she is a genius tactician with her new appointments or completely barking.

Well my claim to fame is that Andrea Leadsom has recently sacked me (not quite true- I cam to the end of my time on an advisory committee and she wrote me a nice letter). She’s sharp and pretty tough. Don’t underestimate her

I always though huntin’ shootin’ and fishin’ in a controlled sort of way was quite good for the environment.

If by environment you men the land used specifically for this purpose that is largely man made and maintained then possibly but in general the notion that the countryside needs large swathes of toffs marauding around killing things for fun for its protection is a little far fetched

not everything they do is bad though but the murdering for fun bit is a tad questionable to most folks morals.

How many of these methods have have you, personally, killed foxes with, in order to form your opinion?

i have never personally killed a human so I guess i wont be able to tell whether a swift kill shot is better than chasing them for 4 hours with a pack of hounds and letting them rip them apart when they eventually catch them

I have also never raped anyone so I am staying quiet on that issue till I have tried a variety of different methods to be sure you know for science. The argument that you must have done the activity, as that extreme example showed, is species in the extreme.

Fair dos but most of us think this makes you a bit……whatever polite word will do there. Deal with it and get a nicer hobby

I’m suspecting that The Leader is propelling these colossal bell ends into positions where they can’t run away. Give it a few years and they will all have been fired off for being incompetent, mad, liars or all three.

Like sending troublesome officers to The Russian Front.

    None.

But then I’ve never taken any pleasure in dispatching any creature I’ve killed by my own hand that has been grievously maimed by something/someone else before I did something to alleviate it’s suffering.

Personally, if I had to kill something again out of mercy, the last thing I’d do is to unleash a pack of hounds upon it.

Ninfan how many hunt kennels have you been in? It’s such a rubbish question.

I am a bit ambivalent about hunting due to my own experiences, I know one hunt which is so rubbish they couldn’t catch a cold (Llangibby)

do they treat hounds well, that is up to you, if a hound isn’t fast enough, doesn’t have the stamina, getting old then they are killed off. Hounds are just tools of the trade.

Activities like cubbing is pretty despicable, I have also met and worked with some right idiots who think as hunt followers it is ok to batter sabs.

I have also encountered really unpleasant hunt sabs whose sole agenda is to bash a toff.

There are far more effective ways of controlling foxes.

    +1

Whereas in the last IPSOS Mori poll, a massive 82% (urban) and 84% (rural) of respondents were against repealing the current law. Now while Leavetards are masturbating and taunting over a 52:48 referendum result and the incorrectness of the polls which failed to predict that, I’m sure they will think up a way of dismissing those figures too.

It’s also worth noting that a free vote in the HoC would likely fail, even if somehow, the Tories managed to get the SNP not to vote. (Although that might have changed a bit with the new febrile mood of the Tory party.)

Controlling fox population by having culls is a bit different to a bunch of wealthy Tories having fun on horses.

I didn’t realise that stopping toffs having fun was an environmental issue

The environmental and animal welfare issues always seem to be secondary to class war with the anti brigade

I thought her plan to lift the hunting ban was just a sop to the Tory Party members to get her elected PM. I’d think she’ll have more important things to worry about now….

You cannot state this for sure, I’m afraid. It’s just dismissing anti-cruelty concerns as wrapped up in a class war. As for toffs rampaging through the countryside, nobody is stopping them doing this. They can have a drag-hunt. And maybe just use fake blood to daub the children when it comes to that bit. Weird as it might be, there’s nobody stopping them from doing this.

Killing out of necessity, and in as humane a way as possible, to feed yourself and others is very different from killing for pleasure. Enjoying the food is not the same as enjoying the killing. The failure by some to acknowledge the difference is what many find distasteful (to put it mildly).

I’ve very likely been on as many foxhunts as you, and more than likely seen a lot more action, and, like you, have formed the opinion that Mikey74 is a lot closer to the truth than you are.

Even though Junkyard has demonstrated it’s of zero consequence how much hunting you’ve done.

Perhaps Labour could move on and stop people putting metal hooks through the mouths of fish before yanking them out of the water and then throwing them back in again for another go?

Always seems a rather coarse activity to me….

Aren’t hunting numbers actually better than ever?

And so clever to train the dogs to ignore any nice foxes that might come into sight (let alone be released into the action 😉 )

To be honest thm, I have no idea. I consider it pretty much of an irrelevance in today’s society which faces far bigger challenges and the parliamentary time they may take than a tiny minority of the population riding around chasing things and wasting the great majority of the public’s time trying to repeal an act with which the great majority agree. When the ban was implemented, there was a majority of the public in favour of it. Since the ban, that majority has increased and by more in rural areas. That’s enough for me.

As for the dogs, yes, I’m sure the kennels have made them aware of the law and the consequences of their following instinct and doing something silly. 🙂
