    Hi

We are thinking about buying a job lot of these to issue to our cycle couriers.

We have a sample in the office that to me looks as though it may cease to be waterproof in a very short time.

Anyone worn one of these long term?

Had mine for about 3 years now, swwms waterproof and been washed a few times, the zip is starting to open up though when zipped up.

Oh and theyre not very warm, you need to layer up underneath.

When I was a courier we got a load of trade price Freestyle Goretex jackets for the riders.

I’ve still got mine, in good working order, 12 years down the line*.

Unfortunately, Freestyle have now gone out of business, so not much help really, sorry.

*Still got the trousers as well 🙂

I got one free with a magazine sub. It’s not a great jacket, very hot and sweaty and not very waterproof at all. I’ve not worn mine much but a friend used his fairly regulalry over last winter and the zip broke.

My 2003/4 vintage Nevis lasted me a good while – kept its ‘crispness’, washed & reproofed a few times and replaced the zipper once. Stopped using it once I got a road bike as I found it just too baggy. Great for MTB though – still use it for that. – the bagginess helps – I can wear it over body armour for DH.

The ‘newer’ ones (2006/7 ish) didn’t seem to have the pit zips, which was a big fat fail in my book. They were a great feature and really helped regulate temps.

No idea about the newest ones though.

The thing ive noticed about mine is you sty dry, except fr around the cuffs, the rain seems to track down there, and takes forever o dry out, and its uncomfortable.

Project. I guess if you find it uncomfortable you would not want to wear it for 10+ hours on a rainy day?

Gary M. Rouhgly how old is yours?

I’d be disappointed (to say the least) if I was a bike courier out for several hours a day, potentially in rain all day & my employer gave me one of those. I’d want something well proven like Gore Tex or eVent as the main fabric, with reinforced shoulders for the bag. When you’re ‘living’ in the jacket, it needs to be top notch stuff. Cheap ‘waterproofs’ are good for the odd shower for a few minutes or an hour, but all day??? Needs to be top end stuff.

I don’t know what the Nevis is made of but what cp says above is true. Also, with adequate pit zips ‘cos there’s nothing worse than being boiled alive in your waterproof.

Think mines is from around 2008, no pit zips and only a rear pocket.
