Yes it’s fine to use other oils.

I was sold some Motul 7.5wt by J-Tech and recommended to use it in all suspension applications. It’s been great.

I also have some generic 15wt suspension oil that I use sometimes, which is also fine.

My preference is Motorex Supergliss 100, but it’s really difficult to get in the UK. My second choice is Fox gold 20wt.

Supergliss should be a lot easier for you to get your hands on.

I’m no expert, but it’s generally claimed that motorbike suspension fluid is the same as bicycle suspension fluid.

And my 15wt oil I mentioned in my earlier reply is RockOil – a motor brand.

I use 5w30 fully synthetic engine oil for RS lowers service. I think this was recommended by TFfTuned many years ago.

In the past, Rockshox and Fox have used Silkolene and Torco motorbike oils. It used to be really obvious as the bottles were the same. Not sure where we are with that now though.

TBF, lowers are just a bath/lube so it just needs to be the right amounts, vaguely the right thickness and slippyness, and not have any additives that cause problems (some fork oils include agents designed to slightly swell up seals, to give better sealing, but pushbikes tend not to want that- difference between motorbikes that might realistically never get a fork service over tens of thousands of miles and many years and are suspending 200+kg, and pushbikes that are supposed to be serviced every 5 minutes and want really low stiction)

I used Ford diesel engine oil in my Lyriks for a long time. Can’t remember why, someone recommended it.

I use Motorex power synth 5w40. Saw it mentioned on mtbr a while back as being almost as good as Supergliss (mentioned upthread) but easier to get hold of.
I’m using it in Manitou forks, supposedly this is what they use In the factory and sell rebranded as Manitou oil

Just get the closest weight synthetic you can find locally, 15wt or whatever, i wouldn’t bother about multigrades like 5w30 or the likes, they’re more engine oils, there’s plenty of 15wt fork oil, which as many have said, is the same thing as fox, rockshox, etc use anyway.

Lowers oil is just lube so its really not critical – myself i just use halford motorcycle fork oil
