Particularly good if you also enjoy a sense of crushing disapointment

No sadly, no beer in the Lebowski residence this wk, chest infection & antibiotics… 😥 so Im looking for an inspired choice for when I can have a hop-based recovery drink..

If you can some up with something that isnt in a glass bottle that would be even better

I’ve got a bottle of Tactical Nuclear Penguin sat in the cupboard. It cost £30 so opening that will be an occasion.

But to answer your question a bottle of Worthington White Shield should do the trick, a truly great beer.

Got a special edition of Wychwood’s Hobgoblin at home, “King Goblin.” That’s going to be a bit special.

It’s a chewy one. They serve it at my local ‘Spoons from time to time, and it even feels like an occasion when I drink it there.

Woah! Totally dependent on the particular antibiotic. Drink has no effect on some, with others it can properly f*ck you up.

Got a bottle of Fullers Bottle conditioned beer from 2002, 8.5%.
Also got a bottle of Eldridge Pope – Thomas Hardys Ale (11%) from 1995 which I cant bring myself to drink. Mainly because the brewery doesnt exist anymore and once its gone thats it. 😥

Haven’t tried one in years buit there ain’t a lot out there that will meet both those criteria unless you want a Carling in a plastic bottle?!

EDIT personally I did rather enjoy popping the cork on a big Leffe Blond bottle after a ride on the 1st.

If I’ve been to Belgium this is a prized bottle in my house:

Otherwise, I always get excited about a bottle of this:

Thought you might like that – for some reason it is the only choice if you want a beer at Murrayfield and don’t want to miss half the match trekking up to the bar 🙄

I got a 9 pint mini keg from the Bradfield brewery last weekend, opening that was a little bit of an occasion. A bit like tapping and spiling a proper cask. The ale was lovely too. Have a look on their site for them. A few other breweries do them too. I reckon one of those would suit your requirements nicely.

By far the best beer i’ve drunk was a bottle of Thomas Hardy i bought in the early 80’s that somehow i’d managed to keep for about 18 years. I’ve drunk un-aged Hardy & it was nothing like that. It lost all the “barley wineyness”. Absolutely lovely.

I regret not keeping a case of the proper Gales Prize Old Ale in corker bottles back for ageing. That would be stunning.

peterfile has it right. For me it’d have to be the Rochefort Tripple.

    Bath Ales Festivity Porter.

The in-laws brought down a wee keg of it from Bath the last couple of Christmases. It’s magic. Very, um, festive.

Also novel opening up the keg and pouring from that, rather than from a bottle, which adds to the sense of occasion.
