so i’ve got my wedding this weekend, for weeks and weeks i’ve scaled my riding back to nothing but spinning sessions because i’ve had the fear of god drummed into me that i’m not allowed to break anything before the wedding.

i’ve just got off the phone with mrsconsequence who think’s she’s broken her arm.

A white cast should match the wedding dress.

Get out for a ride now then.

i fear that that will be pressed upon me in the near future (getting married in Jan).

    How did she do it?

I’d avoid bringing it up in conversation for a while (say 1-2 years)

can’t go for a ride now….at work and gotta take a patient to the hospital for an appointment with the orthopaedic consultant. so i’ll spend hours in one hosp this afternoon, then drive home and take the imaginary woman to another.

this will limit the 9 available free hours to finish off everything left to do before the weekend to… well much less 🙁 so definitely no time to ride.

    hoooray.

lol i’m hoping it’s not actually borked and that the panic of possibly having broken it is making the pain worse than it is.

i’ll be a very happy man if we get to the hospital and they say ‘go home and take some paracetamol you numpty’

On the plus side, pretty much takes your chances of getting hurt on the bike down to zero?

Why would they tell you to take some paracetemol?

not quite sure how it happened, its difficult to tell through the upset phone call… focus was on whether she goes to hosp now or i take her this evening. i said now, especially as one of her team members is on the helthcare team at the prison and they’re recommending going to hosp…. but she’s adamant she wants me to check it out first.

Might be better if she gets herself to the hospital now, rather than waiting for you to get home from work this evening to drive her. Why wait? Go now, hopefully it’s alright and she’ll be home before you 🙂

Edit: If it is broke, it needs sorting asap. If it’s not, that’s worth knowing sooner rather than later., and at least she might get some good painkillers so she can sleep tonight.
A&E is busier in the evenings too, and more possibility of getting it X-rayed and checked out properly straight away than at night. You don’t want to go tonight and have to go back tomorrow as well.

    Go, go ,go.

    It’s not broken then.

Reckon she would know about it if it was broken and want to go straight to A&E, I know I did when I broke my wrist.

No way would I have sat around for the day waiting for my SO to come home and confirm my suspicions. 😀

She’s trying to get out of the wedding isn’t she?

see i’m thinking the same thing… if she can wait then it’ll be fine. but when she broke her wrist snowboarding she put up with it for 2 weeks before getting it checked out, she was worried about being a hassle… with the weddingything on saturday she’s desperate to not do anything about it until sunday.

Thats a proper arse Phil. I hope she is ok. Give her my best and I will see you on saturday with hopefully not a cast in sight.

Of course if she has broken it, you is coming out riding! 😀

    Wait, what?

Health and fitness is important. “Perfect” wedding photos are not.

The point of getting married to start a life together, not for everything to look model perfect. Perfect pictures are the ones with you two in them smiling.

Really sad to hear it, ive been following ur wedding preps, mine is on the 16th and also at (even shorter) notice.

Ive got a ‘stag do’ with some mates riding the south downs way this weekend in two days. I have similarly been told to ride VERY slowly and carefully!

if i even have the tinyest suspicionz its fractured i’m taking her to the hosp tonight.

you’ve clearly not married a 25yr old woman who’s done modelling and stuff before!

titus, i’m sure she’ll be fine.. its the potential X amount of extra hours in a general hosp i’m not looking forward to.

that reminds me… going to go dig out the industrial fans from the basement here at work for the weekend, if the forecast is remotely accurate it’s going to be a hot one 😀

    Clearly!

Here’s hoping for whatever outcome you most desire, anyway. Personally I think it’d be cool to be sporting biking/extreme sport injuries in my wedding pics. Maybe if it is broken you can go out and get yourself bashed up as well?

if its broken i’m incredibly tempted to throw myself into a tree on the bike, but then there’s the risk of neither of us being able to drive for our ‘fly drive’ honeymoon!

my gut feeling is she’s ok, i hope she is anyway!

    shes got cold feet

she probably broke it herself to avoid marrying you 😈

If it is broken get them to set it bent (as in at the elbow) and not straight, lots of things you can get up to if it’s set that way, you are limited a little if set the other way.

    Herumph..

I bust my foot year before last and the cast was blue.. it matched the colour of my toes for quite some time.

i was at a wedding in june.

the groom was downhilling on annoch mor the day before …… i was invited but i was having nothing to do with a broken groom on wedding day. The bride would litterally have killed me dead !

Get A&E to cast her hand in a certain position suitable for your good self.

At least the wedding night won’t be a total disaster for you then.

update is…. its not broken 😀

triage nurse and co thought it was until the x-rays showed it was fine, she must have caught it on exactly the right point to confuse everyone because there was a rock hard swelling sticking out along her arm near the elbow that looked and felt like a bit of bone!

    good news is good.

I can’t understand folk who stop riding when they’ve got something coming up?!? You could be killed in a car crash or run over by a bus tomorrow. I’ve known folk stay off the bike because they’ve got a biking holiday coming up! Most of these folk have never even had bad accidents before either.
Unless you’re downhiller with no regard for your own safety, keep riding, life’s too short!

i’ve got a history of hurting myself on the bike when i need to not be hurt, mainly summer.

that sounds silly. I’ve stopped playing 5aside before events/holidays coz, well, lets face it, football is a dangerous sport. I might reign it in a bit on the descents but never stop riding!

MrsG tends to ban me from any sport leading up to holidays. I have (on numerous occasions) boarded aeroplanes sporting casts, bandages, bruises, crutches etc. Both biking and, mainly, football related incidents. So I completely understand where the OP is coming from.

Great news PhilC by the way 8)
