I have a set of 2020 fox 34 factory stepcast fit 4.  They came with the remote lever.  Im really keen to ditch the lever and just have the crown mounted switch.  can anyone help with what parts i need as im a little confuse as there are a few options.  Am i right in also assuming its a relatively straight forward job or one for the LBS

    cheers

Interested too. Bought a lever for a tenner haven’t dared undo the fork yet!!

Also interested. I’ve got a set of 32s, the cable actuated mechanism has failed twice, due to the bearings sitting in a pool of water inside the fork.

Ridiculous design. I’ve removed the cable and set them to fully open and left well alone. Having a crown mounted lockout option would be nice though.

I believe the 2020 34 still used 2016 era top cap ucups.

That’s good news as you just need an ident spring and ball bearing and the fit4 dialset.

    Part 820-05-330-KIT I think

It’s a super easy swap. Take the tension off the remote remove the grub screw and remove cable/housing.

Undo the screw that holds the top cap dial in place and pop the whole dial and cable housing up and off the damper shaft. There is a friction fit seal  (maybe not for 2016) so it can be a decent pull.

Clean it out, use a bit of thickish grease to help install the spring and ball bearing (hardest part) then drop the washer over and secure with c clip. align the damper shaft to open and install the blue lever in the appropriate open position. Then install the black dial and fix in place with the screw.

You’re not opening the damper at any point

Fox swapped to a different ucup at some point which didn’t have the indent pocket so from some point (depending on product family) you have to buy a new ucup as well.

It works without the ball bearing. I did mine by changing only the top parts to keep the cost down. Just means you don’t have the 3 set clicks when you turn the lever. But still have the full range of adjustment from locked to open.

A stiff breeze or errant branch and you might find yourself in full lockout though 😉

    Works (with caution).

In fairness, compression damped “trail” mode on the fit4 cartridge isn’t particularly accurate anyway so even with indents you might not be bang on the required position to make it work as intended and unlike grip, doesn’t range between 0 and 100% depending on position.
