Great news and be sure to have in writing what they expect to see improved in those three months and what support they will give you to achieve the targets .

Theses are some of the best bits of this forum. Good advice freely given ( with a bit of banter thrown in ) that helped you in a stressful time.

Good job staying calm and focused and being well prepped for the meeting, sounds like it would be best option to start the job hunt now and good luck.

Talk of kids/mortgages/finances is always tough to hear, really pleased things didn’t turn out as you feared. I think you touched a STW nerve here judging by the number of people wanting to know how you got on.

Joking apart that would really screw them over. Glad you got the three month extension. The same thing happended to me six months ago, actually got through probabtion but then was literally marched off site because my face didn’t fit (actual words used). No warning of poor performance, no opportunity to be represented. In a much better job now with more money and a manager I respect. Still feel aggrieved from time to time though, I know it wasn’t my fault, they were a similar bunch of no hopers as your place seems to be, but still aggrieved I found myself in that position. Sounds like you handled it really proffessionally, hang onto that bit of pride and belief in yourself, it’ll stand you in good stead as you move on.

Really good news in a way. At least your immediate money worries are addressed. Just use the 3 months to find something else but you need to try and keep it away from them and keep the results going in the right direction.

Damn you handled that well! Continued good luck!

My two penneth, if I may.

You have been there less than 12 months. They don’t need a reason to let you go.

“Sorry Mr. Mog but things just aren’t working out and we feel it’s best yadda, yadda, yadda. Of course references will be given etc…”

This is how it so easily could have gone. You, if I may say, have handled the pressure very well and demonstrated a very high level of professionalism both in the way you provided evidence and the way you accepted responsibility where necessary. Getting an extra 3 months is a massive result in my opinion. Of course, what you do with the time is up to you but I am genuinely very pleased for you.

    Well done sir!

Nice one Mog. Great thread, nice ending I think we’ll all want a live stream from the leaving do when you move on to pastures new, better still invite STW to the event!

Having been through similar situation I can say you did better than me. Well done and now use you’re time wisely. A great example of STW camaraderie.

Great result Mog…. struggling to think of how that could have gone any better!

Usually on probation you have to give less notice – so now that you are actively looking, the boot is on the other foot.

Sounds like it went as well as you could reasonably have hoped for given what you were expecting. LIke’s been said above, use the remainder of this week to consider your next move, then Monday morning start on putting that plan into action.

Not to sound too pessimistic but might be an idea to take it easy on the finances for the next couple of months just in case you need a bit of breathing space should the timings not work out perfectly.

Ah you dont need that kind of shite from them.

They have tried to get you over a barrel and you have stuck two fingers right up in their face so get to the doctors, lay it on and take the time off on the sick as they wont want you there they have made that clear.

Spend the time finding the right place to work (if you can sell stuff then sell yourself instead) and be happy in the fact that they are spewing and you are out on your bike!

    Well done Mog,

Where are you based and what does you you sell.

I’ll be needing someone with industrial sales experience based in the M4 area south/central in about 3 to 4 months.

on the flip side, maybe the reason for his review was that he was actually pretty poor at his job. No smoke without fire!!!

    Excellent result and well done!
    One observation:

Accusation 3 – no staff development.
Evidence 3 – emails sent to local colleges requesting enrolment dates for specific courses for specific staff.
New Accusation 4 – I’m not authorised to enrol staff on external (cost) courses without telling anyone – how would line manager know I’d done that if I didn’t tell them?

Seems an almost deliberate Catch-22 there; they accuse you of not developing the staff, but accuse you of being out of line for taking steps to develop the staff through training!
While you may not be authorised to enrol staff onto training courses, where does it say that you can’t be pro-active and get details of suitable and appropriate courses that you can then present to the authorised people?
I can’t see that you did anything wrong, you were just inquiring, not signing cheques!

Hope it starts getting better for you from now on. Good luck and well done, went through something similar a few years ago but managed to get out of it well enough financially but it wasn’t pleasant.

Good result – hopefully you feel a lot less stressed now that you’ve bought yourself some time. If you want to make a go of it (not sure that you do) then I would advise monthly review meetings rather than wait until the 3 months is up. That way you can put them under pressure re-recruitment, training etc.

    Nice one.
I hate it when bad managers try and get away with it and blame other people. Happens far too often.
From your summary it strikes me they’re not very intelligent as the ‘issues’ were so easily batted back at them. Anyone worth their salt would have realised that would happen and have not even tried it in the first place.
Glad you were able to rise above their games.
Good luck with the job hunt 🙂
