I would like to have a second key for my Peugeot, with the buttons working. How do I go about getting it?

I used the main dealer to get our spare Toyota key done, cost £140!! but that did include re-setting the car to the new key.

Main Stealer Dealer – they would probably have to programme it for you.

Be prepared to be done over.

Can it not be done independently? Nobody clones keys?

There are a few independants that do them, but it does tend to involve programming the key into the immobiliser for any modern car. Independants do tend to be a bit more cost-effective.

It’s still not cheap, whichever way you get it done – but a whole load cheaper than getting a replacement sorted when you’ve lost your only key.

It can be done, you just ned the hardware/ software to do it. Why not try some car club links? VAG group cars use a program call vagtacho or vagcom i think to reprogram keys to the car via the OBDII port. Don’t know specific details but i’m sure thats how it is done.

I know a great locksmith in Stirling who can reprogram keys for much cheapness. I would always avoid dealers. Car clubs and Google could be your pal.

If an independent place has diagnostic fault finding/clearing equipment they should be able to do it.
Programming a key to a car literally takes about 2 mins and makes the dealer a lot of money for very little (read none) effort!

Hairy, where are you based? my mate has a garage and he does them and is cheaper than main dealer, if your near Northampton

    Down near Heathrow, unfortunately.

For my mondeo I just bought a s/h keyfob off ebay. Reprogrammed it myself in about 2min – on the mondeo it’s just done with 2 existing keys and the new one. Then any old locksmith to get a blank key blade copied like your existing one. Total expenditure about £20.

I dunno if you can do that on peugots though… I’d have thought some google effort would tell you though?

A colleague of mine has lost both keys for his 2005 Saab 9-3… £1400 to replace them! 🙄
