A bit of riding near Loch Ness?

I am off to Loch ness for a few days next week. Is there a nice 1.5-3 hour ride nearby?

I fancied Laggan Wolftrax but its maybe a bit far from where we are staying, google suggest is about 1.5 hours from the campsite. I know there is a lot of epic riding in the area but since I am going with my GF who isn’t really a cyclist I won’t have time for all day epics. Laggan could work as she can ride for a bit too, however see the issue above.

Is there anything in the area which could fit the bill?

Abrichan trails? They aren’t wolf trax, but entertaining. Perhaps add in some great glen way if you want to travel more.

fort william will be closer than wolftax I’d imagine. I’ve never actually been, but I know there’s more trails than just the 2 downhill tracks.

Where on Ness are you? Learnie Red Rocks is near enough to Inverness, and a giggle of an overgrown trail centre.

Short of that, get your OS map out and explore. There is lots of natural riding at Fort Augustus (out and back on Corrieyarrick?) Invermoriston, Drumnadrochit and Affric…

The Great Glen Way is quite nice, especially the new “high route” sections.

Also the South Loch Ness Trail is a new route, it has some interesting bits.

Problem is, it looks nothing like that when you get north of Fort Augustus. It fools lots of folk into thinking they can ride it all on a hybrid.

OP – whereabouts at Loch Ness? If you are on the South/East side then bits of the South Loch Ness Trail can be linked together for some easy-ish riding with a bit of technical descent round the Fair Haired Lads Pass. If on the North/West side then the Great Glen Way/Abriachan area might work better. There are other trails round Drumnadrochit too, or easy forest stuff out past Invergarry.

As you can see, the FW to FA bit isn’t much like the rest 🙂

We am staying near Invermoriston. We are only staying for 3 full days so its just a mornings ride I am really after. I think it could be either Fort william or Laggan. I really fancy trying the Top Chief route at FB plus a few runs of the DH. Then standard tourist stuff.

And yer climbing legs, the GGW from Drumnadrochit is steep (and from the Inverness side too, but at least it’s rideable).

Hi do you know about the south Loch Ness trail? I rode it up to Inverness  you could ride part as an out and back

The South Loch Ness Trail presently stretches 34 miles from Torbreck on the edge of Inverness to Fort Augustus. Launched in 2011, the trail follows a mixture of minor roads, forest tracks and constructed trail. Suitable for walkers, horse riders and off-road cycling, the trail has spectacular views of Loch Ness and the wild landscapes of the south side, while at the same time never being far from the small villages, such as Dores and Foyers, that populate the area.

If you do the GGW, then when you see this sign in the Abriachan area, make sure you stop for a cuppa.
