True

My best slow cooker recipe at the moment is beef and carrots cooked in ale, absolutely wonderful!

chicken chasseur last weekend

ace to sling it all in the pot, go for a ride for 3 hours in the icy cold, then get back to a house that's smelling fantastic.

might do a beef one this weekend.

Throw a couple of chilli's in to round it off nicely. For some reason this has become our "it's missing something" ingredient over the last couple of years (growing your own helps)

MMMmmm herby dumplings (maybe a chilli in there too)

Bought a cheapo Breville ITP137 4.5 Litre from Argos for £19.99 down from £29.99 yesterday, then put a whole chicken in to cook ... chicken disintegrated this morning. Now, it's chicken soup. 😆

This one ...

Tips? an unrolled lamb shoulder, a whole bottle of young's double chocolate stout, a touch of rosemary, onion and carrot.

The chocolate stout is the ingredient of gods (and kicks the arse off chemical tasting cooked down guiness, blegch)

😆

Mine is very simple.

1. Chicken
2. Chinese herbs ... tree bark like.
3. dried goji berries.
4. Some other Chinese herbs ...
5. Ophiocordyceps sinensis. <- look a bit like maggot so I eat you.
6. Five small bowls of water. No additive.

Phowrrr ... I will get stiffy tonight ... 😆

So are you just chucking the raw ingredients in or are you browning/etc first?

Nope. All raw ingredients. Just maximize heat boil then put on auto. The purpose is to collect the essence from all the ingredients. Phowaaarrr ...

Whhhhaattt! 😮

I think it's cheap because it looks very simple and not even double wall steel. But it does heat up the room a bit which is good. 😆

Do you not find that onions end up a bit rubbery done like that? They taste fine but the texture isn't great.

You are chopping the onions aren't you? Not just bunging it in whole. 😉

Two linked recipes

Beef Brisket
Lump of beef - rubbed in a little cayenne, salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, brown sugar and left overnight
Chopped onion (fried off gently until translucent)
Full fat coke
BBQ sauce (smokey flavoured is best)
left on low for about 8-10hrs
Pulls apart with a fork

Reduce down the cooking liquor a bit and set aside half (can be frozen)

Chilli
Beef mince (browned off then some flour mixed in and cooked out in the frying pan)
Onion and carrot (fried off gently for 10mins)
Can of chopped tomatoes
Beans (Kidney etc.)
Whatever other veg you want
Then whack in the cooking liquor from the brisket and cook out for 6hrs on low

The BBQ style cooking liquor from the brisket makes the chilli taste amazing
