grrrr double post.
P2 tops out at 121mph doesnt it ?
Thank you...
Top speed Should be 125mph I believe... I got to 129mph.. 🤷🏼😂
Didn't feel like it had much more from there...
And RE the camera position.. it's a mount I designed and made myself! Links to the mount are in the YT description!

Did we do the challenge being made to VAT on away from home charging. Currently it's 5% for at home because it's domestic electricity but for charging at a service station etc., it's 20%
Now has been challenged by an on-street supplier and first ruling has agreed.
Remains to be seen if the ruling is appealed or not, and even then if the saving is really passed on or kept by the suppliers based on the fact that we've been 'happy' to pay 79p or whatever up to now.
I'm two days into EV ownership. Polestar 2 long range single motor, no posh packs just base model.
310 miles, mainly motorway. 250miles in pouring rain, 0*c to 5*c in one go, so apparently terrible for EV's.
Chuff me fast chargers are expensive, but also dead easy to get the hang of. I was disappointed to sell my soul to Musk and use superchargers in Penrith. Home charging is great though, just plug and go...
The car itself is a leap in experience from the Fabia. Lots to get used to / learn, both the "Volvo vs VAG" changes, and the more plentiful tech. Things like the accelerator response and regen when slowing, whoah different. But even mrs_oab is liking how simple it is to press pedals and go. Screen is still not as easy as buttons but there is a big knob to use for stereo.
Gear selector is just pointless.
Parking - it's a much bigger wagon, and despite sensors and reverse camera, it's a big wagon to park backwards...
However winging over Shap in the dark with amazing headlights, heated seat, banging stereo and full Volvo waftage felt great...
Assume you've downloaded the app so you can pre-heat the car before you get back to it. Or schedule it if you've a regular commute. Mine goes back in Aug and it's possible I'll just buy another, need to dest drive some alteratives soon.
Hi DrP.
It was indeed 129 MPH.
Great day with some interesting weather!
Whilst driving home the penny dropped as to who you were, I haven’t been here for a long time (or ridden a bike actually). A couple of things you mentioned gave it a way.
So I thought I’d have a look to see if my hunch was right. Checked WRPT first then saw this thread.
Hope Woburn wasn’t too wet today and you had a good ride.
Great to have met you, I remember some of your threads from years ago.
All the best,
Richard.

App downloaded, two accounts created on car and in app for mrs_oab and I. The only hassle so far has been getting mrs_oab phone to set up as a digital key - it just doesn't seem to work. Still trying to work out if I can make it so Key1/DigitalKey1 pops the seat in Memory1, and similarly for Key2/DigitalKey2/seatmemory2...
Also if key1 will open mrs_oab's user profile and key2 mine...
Anyone know?
(This will put an end to 3 decades of me having to back seat off from steering wheel before I can get in a car...)
Richard.. forgive me as my memory is terrible!!
Did i see you on track then??!!
Cheers!
DrP
@matt - i believe you can set up different user profiles for different keys, and thus the seats etc should move to their positions.
if you have any issues or questions about teh p2, do fire away. I'm far from an expert, but had been in, under, and around my car many MANY times!!
DrP
Cheers - will go and sit in it again for an hour tonight and see if I can work it out. At worse case we have to just press the seat memory button when getting in, but it would be nice to get it to set seat and things according to who opens it...

When you say 'it just doesn't seem to work' what do you mean?
Can you get a digital key onto Mrs OAB's phone, if you can does it open the car etc?
It was a bit of a faff setting up the digital key on my P4. In the end I use the digital key and Mrs OTS uses the fob with the guest profile set to her seat alignment - but she only drives it once every few months, so not really an issue.
You don't have 2 keys in the car when trying to set things up by accident. I had a bit of a moment when I realised that my Apple Watch also had my phone's key on it when trying to setup profiles for OTS Junior 🙄
I've found the P4 Facebook groups good for advice.
I did at the end of the faffage last night realise I needed to not have two phones and two keys in the car...!
It is just not setting up the digital key - gave it 10mins+ to 'do its thing' and it just sits with the spinning 'setting up digital key, this can take up to 2 minutes thing.
I will also go search the car - the dealership gave me one key, and on the way home I discovered a second (activity) key in the frunk cable bag....
DrP.
Sat next to you all day 😂
Cheers,
Richard.
OH!!!!!!!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣
Richard = Dicky!!!! The penny finally dropped!
Well, thank you again for such great tuition! I've got the feedback form to fill in, and will honestly all be really positive!
When I get a chance I'll edit together all the clips into a slightly more appealing video!
Cheers again!

My Enyaq is in for it's service...and in overnight as the emergency breakdown thing is broken and a new part is needed.
Headlights, apparently they were completely out of alignment (which has been fixed) and they have also fixed the issue where I can't set the dipped beam level (when I'm carrying 3 bikes on the back, the dipped beam dazzles drivers and I can't lower the beam) - apparently I can now.
Not quite sure what is included in the service but it sounded like 3 things - brake fluid, pollen filter and something else.
Glad it is a lease car and I'm not paying for any of this!
I'm hoping they give it a charge before I pick it up...
Matt, AFAIK you need to have both keys in the magic spot in the car in order to set up a digital key? So proper key plus the activity key in the correct cupholder.
Once you have it set up, you have to link the key to the profile. But you can only do that if only 1 key is in the car. And then it should store a bunch of personal settings to that profile - manual says drivers seat is among them.
A tip from me is that if you map a route which takes you below 10% of range, it knows and tries to re-route you to a rapid charger. Sneaky bastard 🙂
Mrs OS has a BMW that says you can pay £10 per month for adaptive main beam! £10 per month for as long as you own the car
Plenty of places will unlock these features for a fraction of the cost. The downside is that should it go to a main dealer for service, they will reset it to factory.
I've heard...

Noted, will try again shortly when I get home. I also have to set up Octopus Intelligent Go with the car. I hope all this works and then does not need revisiting regularly...
Got my dreaded Citroen back after nearly 4 weeks in the dock.
Cost £1950 for a broken Surge harness whatever that is - paid up. Dealership were literally 1/10 and didn't help me put my case to Citroen. Absolutely terrible. (It was a only a few months out of warranty and very low miles 18000.)
However in the background I started with Citroen customer services and after almost giving up hope they asked me to send the invoice in to look at and a few days later have agreed to refund me in full. (Yes Citroen the car shouldn't just stop dead for no real obvious reason.)
Well pleased with that.
Car has been sent packing back to lease company. Paid early lease cancellation (40% of remainder) and a Frontera will become its in warranty replacement for two years. The local garage matched on line price of £202 a month. Frontera is £125 cheaper a month so that will cancel the early repayment fee after approx 12 months.)
Job done.
(My partner's car.)
Also it turns out when the traction battery is not working you can't get neutral so I took the advice of the AA man and wound the cable in that puts the car in neutral (9mm socket) - but apparently I broke something in that process that cost £200 too.
Not sure how to get around that. And neither did the recovery company.
Either way glad it's gone. What a terrible February it has been on every level.
Finally got a drive of this. It was delivered nearly 2 weeks ago but I’ve been away so my wife has been looking after it.
I like it 😎
Paid early lease cancellation (40% of remainder)
While I'm pleased for you that you are rid of it, this seems deeply unfair.
That's just the way the contract goes that you sign up to.
My error for being in a 4 year contract. But deals were tricky just after the pandemic.
I suppose you could take on the lease company but we both just like to get shut and move one.
Incoming deal is much better.
Nice @phil5556 what model (not base as it has the bonnet charge indicator?).
Nice @phil5556 what model (not base as it has the bonnet charge indicator?).
It’s an Iconic. I think it would now be an Iconic+ and the “+” gets you the better audio with a sub in the boot which wasn’t an option even I ordered it. And I think Yellow with black roof is now a free colour.
I just wrote a thing about it on the ID3 FB group so I’ll paste it here too:
Managed to get my hands on my car today 😎
Initial impressions…
It’s great. Properly put a smile on my face.
The drive is much better than the VW - it feels lighter and much more nimble. Twisty B roads are fun, stable on the motorway. Suspension is firmer which I like.
The brakes work and the pedal feels nice, I was never a fan of the ID3s brakes. The brake pedal is a bit higher than ideal, the first time I went for the pedal I kicked the side of it.
Buttons everywhere - fantastic. The personal settings button to quickly turn off all the safety stuff is a joy, no more faffing with a touch screen every time you start the car.
It’s maybe not quite as quick as the ID but it’s not slow, plenty nippy enough (I bet the Alpine is great fun).
Steering is nicely weighted, heavy compared to the ID which I like (it’s got 2 lighter settings that I haven’t tried). Not got the most feedback, but what has these days?
An initial play with the software and it’s all nicely responsive, haven’t found anything that doesn’t work yet.
There are a lot of stalks on the RHS. Yes I did wipe the screen instead of selecting reverse. I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
The auto lock / unlock appears to work perfectly. It never worked properly on the ID and I disabled it and had to use the remote buttons.
And, because I know some of you will say it, it’s smaller & doesn’t go as far. But that’s fine for us, it might not be for you.
That looks very nice Phil. Oddly the Alpine GTS is only £20 a month more on our scheme, and £150 less than current Polestar, If I lease again it looks like the most likely candidate.
The Alpine wasn’t available when I ordered (Tusker) then it was briefly available and disappeared again. It was a little over £50 extra which was more than I wanted to spend.
I like the Alpine but think it looks a bit much, the R5 looks with Alpine running gear would be ace.

might be misreading but if the car is on a lease the lease company own it, if it breaks they need to get it fixed, not you. Unless when you say lease you mean pcp?
the Renault 5 is really nice, I got a Renault scenic long range in December and were very happy with it and yes you do get used to the multiple stalks. Although I do think drive and reverse are in the wrong place, should be the other way around.

No it's PCH.
Under the contract we are responsible for all maintenance. That's what you sign up to unless you get maintenance as part of it.
However you could literally dump the car at their HQ and say it's your car. But you may be sued for BoC.
I definitely don't want that battle.
Them owning the car doesn't dictate the terms of the agreement you take on. Though you could pursue that avenue but it would take months of fighting.
No. No they haven't. 30 year old brake controllers are simple and stupid. Current brake controllers (the last 8-10 years or so) have all the speed detection function, traction control/ABS, brake distribution, brake blending, yaw control and so on...How hard can it be to diagnose a brake controller? These things have been on cars for 30 years.
Still no excuse for not being able to diagnose. They're probably just plugging the diagnostic tool in, looking at level one and throwing their hands up and saying it's too difficult...

That's what Hyundai did with ours. They had to get someone from head office. Apparently people who know what they are doing are in short supply.
Our search has begun for EV no. 1.
Probably a few months away from committing as we're waiting for eldest (close to 17) to get his license and then will replace Mrs GD's car when he gets his own. Looking at Focus ISH sized hatchbacks. No SUVs as needs to be aging dog capable for boot entry.
Cupra Born has caught our eye so far (with attractive looking 4 year PCP on the current model). This is about the right size/shape/range for us. It will allow us to do our regular Suffolk trips with no drama when we don't need max capacity for bikes etc. My suggestion of investigating a tow bar for the bike rack and boats is not well liked as that type of thing is for "my" car (see also which car is registered at the household waste recycling centre/tip) 😂.
Inspiration gratefully received of similar stuff that we should look at (I know the ID3 platform shares).
We will reassess the dirty oil burning estate at some point.
We went to look at second hand Kia Niro EV's. The Kia EV 3 looks like a superb car.
The Niro EV was also brilliant and we ended up shortlisting between that and the Polestar we bought. The Polestar won because it was cheaper, longer range and much improved charging speed. The EV3 has all this - and we would have got one if it wasn't so much above our budget...
My suggestion of investigating a tow bar for the bike rack and boats is not well liked
remember you can't put a set of roofbars on a Born or ID3 so bike carrying options are pretty limited. Also as the car is zero rated for towing some insurance companies don't like towbars being fitted, even if they are only for bikes and you can't tow a boat.
No roof bars ... Sea sucker copy works well on my glass roof
Hits the economy massively though

born owner here. Had it 2 years and happy so far. First EV for me and changed from a Ateca. Bought it over other cars as we got 0%PCP , free service pack (including tyres/brakes/wipers etc) so was the best value option. With the updated Born coming there will be good deals on the old ones. Just had its 2yr service and got the 4 tyres changed (30,000km). Need to decide if I will buy it in a year or change it. I will probably keep it but as it’s only a 3 year warranty I might be tempted to get an EV3 but not sure I could justify the extra expense. Lots of new EV cars coming out this year so in no rush to decide anything yet. Only down sides to the Born, it cannot take roof bars (bike fits inside just fine) and infotainment maybe not the best but it doesn’t bother me other than that it’s a good car.

VW do offer a tow bar for the ID3 (but odd that Cupra dont for the Born). Was quoted about €1,500 for it when I looked into it 2 years ago, it was quite fancy, comes out where the numberplate is.
Edit. Its a bike rack, not towbar.
I've been meaning to post a few observations about EVs in the winter since around Christmas, but never found the time. There are quite a few things to cover, but I'll try to keep it brief and break it into sections, so you can ignore anything that doesn't interest you.
Snow Performance
Living in NE Scotland, snow is still fairly common and having spend the last 20 years driving AWD ICE cars I was concerned by how my 2WD EV would cope. I fitted Cross Climate tyres at the start of winter and I'd say that for general day-to-day driving on ploughed roads the EV coped fine. The EV3 has a "snow mode" which allows a bit more slip and tones down acceleration and regen. For the most part I could point it where I wanted to go and it would get there. But it was still noticeable that, when we had the heaviest snowfall we've had for about 15 years over New Year, it was not a patch on our little petrol AWD Ignis when it came to un-ploughed and deeper snow and it stayed on the drive for a few days. The main issue is that you don't have any control over it. No adjusting gears/revs or rocking it backwards and forwards on the clutch to get out of trouble. You just have to trust the computer and if that fails (as it did trying to get up a steep off-road slope that hadn't been ploughed) there isn't really anything you can do about it.
Long Trips at Busy Times
When thinking about an EV I spent a lot of time thinking about our edge case, which is a 500 mile each way trip over Christmas (busy roads, poor weather and reduced range). In fact, like all the other long trips we've done, it turned out to be a non-issue. Again the car wasn't the limiting factor. I stopped when I wanted to, for as long as I wanted to and just charged while I was stopped anyway. The range of the car might be reduced (more on that in a minute) but so is my range. Poor weather and less daylight means I tend to want to stop a bit more often in the winter anyway and while the car could have done the trip with two stops, I couldn't.
The ability to monitor occupancy of chargers was even more useful over the busy Christmas period but finding one was never an issue. I did notice (as I'd seen in the summer) that lots of drivers seemed to head to the same places that they had always used and ignored other (often better) options. So motorway service stations were often showing no occupancy (and probably queues) while a mile or two down the road there would be a bank of barely used chargers near a coffee shop and a nice spot to walk the dogs.
Winter Range
I see a lot of comments online about reduced range in the winter, but it seems that people are often confusing predicted range with actual range. The range quoted by the car is a guess based on your recent history. If, over winter, you keep getting into a cold car (with a cold battery) and driving it for ten miles or so, then getting out and letting it cool down again before repeating the process then your predicted range might drop a fair bit. But that doesn't mean that your ability to do long trips suffers as badly. On a long trip you are not having to constantly heat the cabin from cold and after a few rapid charges the battery warms up as well. I found that my efficiency on the final leg of a long journey was much closer to the summer values than I expected.
Heat Pump
My car had the option of a heat pump (for a bit more money) but when I tried to do some calculations I couldn't see how it would make any difference to me. Obviously a heat pump is more efficient than a PTC heater but whether that is going to make a difference that actually matters is much harder to determine. It comes down to a point that I keep making. Range only matters if you don't have enough and if you do then having more doesn't really make a difference. So, having a heat pump might make the average efficiency figure in the winter a bit better but for day-to-day use that is irrelevant. I've got plenty of range for a normal day's use and I'm charging overnight at cheap rates (7p/kwh). So it's still fully (or more usually 80%) charged by the next morning. My concern was that the reduced efficiency might be an issue on longer trips and might force me to make stops I didn't want to make. But so far that hasn't been the case. The EV3 can tell you how much power is being used for different purposes and on a long trip I found that it generally took around 1 to 1.5kw to keep me comfortable. I generally drive about three hours between stops. So taking the top of the range for heating costs and assuming a heat pump is perfectly efficient (obviously not the case) I might possibly use an extra 4.5 kwh on a single stretch between charges. That's around 5% of my battery and is obviously a big over-estimate. If the car was only just capable of going as far as I wanted to go between stops then that 5% might make a difference. But in fact there always tends to be plenty of charge left when I decide I fancy a stop, so it makes no difference at all as far as I can tell.
Other People
Met up with various family and friends over Christmas and of course they all had questions about the new car. Unfortunately they all seemed to have the same questions. It seems that all anybody wants to talk about when they find out that you have an EV is range and the (obvious) hassle of charging. I kept pointing out that charging just isn't an issue. I've now done almost 20k miles in the EV including various long trips and never once have I needed to stop to charge the car. I just stop when I want to stop and charge while I'm stopped anyway. Since the car can tell me what chargers are nearby and whether they are in use (and if it couldn't various apps can) finding a charger has, so far, never been an issue. They seem to be increasing the number of ultra-rapid charging hubs on main routes far faster than the rate of growth of EVs on the road, so that situation is only getting better for now at least. In fact, I'd say that charging is the least interesting thing about the car. Compared with things like ability to turn on the heating from your phone, the ability of the thing to basically drive itself on a motorway, the almost spooky auto-regen mode that applies the brakes for you as you approach bends, junctions and other cars, the heated steering wheel in winter and ventilated seats in summer, which I never knew I wanted but now love. Heck, even the performance of the stereo is more interesting than range and charging.
To remove any confusion that I clearly created (sorry!), towing and roof bars are a hard no from Mrs GD on "her" car so this isn't a problem. This is what my diesel Skoda is for and is our main obstacle to changing that for an EV.
VW do offer a tow bar for the ID3 ...
Edit. Its a bike rack, not towbar.
Interestingly or not I was sure this was in their pre launch blurb, Golf sized EV that could tow. I wonder if it got quietly dropped?
Great post @roverpig
my experience with the EV3 is similarly positive. In fact the only negative I have is that it’s picked up a cracked rear light lens, looks like a shopping trolley type impact, and it’s heading into the dealers on Monday for a new unit, which is a tenner short of £500 incl VAT and fitting.. 🙄
Ouch 😫 I guess that's the downside of all these fancy toys. Hate to think what a headlight would cost.
The EV3 is an amazing car. Although I dare say most modern cars are and it's not perfect. The back end picks up muck like nothing I've ever had before for a start and the reversing camera seems to have been placed in the muckiest spot rendering it fairly useless in the current weather. But to be fair I think that's the only moan I've got so far.

I see about 500W generally. In milder weather it switches on and off, in cooler weather it's on constantly. So that's about in line with what I'd have expected.
You can't move for rapid chargers round Cardiff now. There's something like 37 within a couple of miles of my house near M4 J30 but I went to the Village hotel at J32 the other day and found another nice bank of high speed rapids.
Have noticed that with quite a lot of EVs, it's mostly due to the AWD/RWD and the switching it can do between them, most AWD will only run rear axle for as much as possible as it's the most efficient, mechanically. So that coats the camera. The back end picks up muck like nothing I've ever had before for a start and the reversing camera seems to have been placed in the muckiest spot rendering it fairly useless in the current weather.

My Polestar says "hold my beer" when it comes to gathering muck and iffy camera placement...
If we could have stretched to an EV3 we would have done.

I'm curious about whether that's that really true, now. Isn't it pretty much wholly related to the shape of the car, especially the back end, and the vortex that gets created behind it? I can't immediately see how it's anything to do with leccy versus ICE, nor really anything to do with which set of wheels the drive comes from. The fact that a lot of current cars are shaped like bricks with a near-vertical back end feels like it's at the root of this.
Nah, i went from a FWD to AWD/PHEV, other than that, it was the same car, same infotainment, same trim, same wheels, even the same tyres (model and size). The back of the car is *filthy* on the new car as it has a massive (almost 100%) bias towards using the rear axle motor in most of my driving.
Also driven FWD and AWD/RWD Polestar2 back to back. In normal driving the RWD version is much dirtier.
Can see this on pretty much any car where you have this sort of set up.
The vortex is there on both, but on a car with RWD it lifts a considerable amount more dirt into the vortex, rather than splattering it all over the underside and sides of the car (FWD).
